1. Israele dunque levò le tende con tutto il suo avere e arrivò a Bersabea, dove offrì sacrifici al Dio di suo padre Isacco.

1. So Israel took his journey with all that he had, and came to Beer-sheba, and offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac.

2. Dio disse a Israele in una visione notturna: "Giacobbe, Giacobbe!". Rispose: "Eccomi!".

2. And God spoke to Israel in visions of the night, and said, "Jacob, Jacob." And he said, "Here am I."

3. Riprese: "Io sono Dio, il Dio di tuo padre. Non temere di scendere in Egitto, perché laggiù io farò di te un grande popolo.

3. Then he said, "I am God, the God of your father; do not be afraid to go down to Egypt; for I will there make of you a great nation.

4. Io scenderò con te in Egitto e io te ne farò anche risalire. E sarà Giuseppe che ti chiuderà gli occhi".

4. I will go down with you to Egypt, and I will also bring you up again; and Joseph's hand shall close your eyes."

5. Poi Giacobbe si levò da Bersabea e i figli di Israele fecero montare il loro padre Giacobbe, i loro bambini e le loro donne sui carri che il faraone aveva mandato per trasportarlo.

5. Then Jacob set out from Beer-sheba; and the sons of Israel carried Jacob their father, their little ones, and their wives, in the wagons which Pharaoh had sent to carry him.

6. Essi presero il loro bestiame e tutti i beni che avevano acquistato nella terra di Canaan e vennero in Egitto; Giacobbe cioè e con lui tutti i suoi discendenti;

20. And to Joseph in the land of Egypt were born Manas'seh and E'phraim, whom As'enath, the daughter of Poti'phera the priest of On, bore to him.

21. I figli di Beniamino: Bela, Becher e Asbel, Ghera, Naaman, Echi, Ros, Muppim, Uppim e Arde.

21. And the sons of Benjamin: Bela, Becher, Ashbel, Gera, Na'aman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim, and Ard

22. Questi sono i figli che Rachele partorì a Giacobbe; in tutto sono quattordici persone.

22. (these are the sons of Rachel, who were born to Jacob -- fourteen persons in all).

23. I figli di Dan: Usim.

23. The sons of Dan: Hushim.

24. I figli di Neftali: Iacseel, Guni, Ieser e Sillem.

24. The sons of Naph'tali: Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer, and Shillem

25. Questi sono i figli di Bila, che Làbano diede alla figlia Rachele, che essa partorì a Giacobbe; in tutto sette persone.

25. (these are the sons of Bilhah, whom Laban gave to Rachel his daughter, and these she bore to Jacob -- seven persons in all).

26. Tutte le persone appartenenti a Giacobbe, uscite dai suoi fianchi, che entrarono in Egitto, senza contare le mogli dei figli di Giacobbe, sono sessantasei.

26. All the persons belonging to Jacob who came into Egypt, who were his own offspring, not including Jacob's sons' wives, were sixty-six persons in all;

27. I figli di Giuseppe, che gli nacquero in Egitto, sono due persone. Tutte le persone della famiglia di Giacobbe, che entrarono in Egitto, sono settanta.

29. Then Joseph made ready his chariot and went up to meet Israel his father in Goshen; and he presented himself to him, and fell on his neck, and wept on his neck a good while.

30. E Israele disse a Giuseppe: "Che io muoia pure, stavolta, dopo aver visto la tua faccia, e che sei ancora vivo!".

30. Israel said to Joseph, "Now let me die, since I have seen your face and know that you are still alive."

31. Allora Giuseppe disse ai suoi fratelli e alla famiglia di suo padre: "Vado a informare il faraone in questi termini: "I miei fratelli e la famiglia di mio padre, che erano nella terra di Canaan, sono venuti da me.

31. Joseph said to his brothers and to his father's household, "I will go up and tell Pharaoh, and will say to him, `My brothers and my father's household, who were in the land of Canaan, have come to me;

32. Ora questi uomini sono pastori di gregge perché sono sempre stati gente dedita al bestiame, e hanno condotto i loro greggi, i loro armenti e tutto il loro avere".

32. and the men are shepherds, for they have been keepers of cattle; and they have brought their flocks, and their herds, and all that they have.'

33. Quando dunque il faraone vi chiamerà e vi domanderà: "Qual è il vostro mestiere?", voi rispondete:

33. When Pharaoh calls you, and says, `What is your occupation?'

34. "Gente dedita al bestiame sono stati i tuoi servi, dalla nostra fanciullezza fino ad ora, sia noi che i nostri padri". Questo allo scopo di poter risiedere nella terra di Gosen". Perché tutti i pastori di greggi sono un abominio per gli Egiziani.

34. you shall say, `Your servants have been keepers of cattle from our youth even until now, both we and our fathers,' in order that you may dwell in the land of Goshen; for every shepherd is an abomination to the Egyptians."
