Zechariah, 7

1. In the fourth year of King Darius, the word of Yahweh was addressed to Zechariah on the fourth day of the ninth month, the month of Chislev.

1. Im vierten Jahr des Königs Darius erging das Wort des Herrn an Sacharja, am vierten Tag im neunten Monat, dem Monat Kislew.

2. Bethel sent Sharezer with a deputation to entreat Yahweh's favour

2. Bet-El sandte Sarezer und Regem-Melech mit seinen Leuten, um den Zorn des Herrn zu besänftigen

3. and to ask the priests in the Temple of Yahweh Sabaoth and the prophets, 'Ought I to go on mourning and fasting in the fifth month as I have been doing for so many years past?'

3. und um die Priester im Haus des Herrn der Heere und die Propheten zu fragen: Soll ich weiterhin im fünften Monat weinen und enthaltsam sein, wie ich es so viele Jahre getan habe?

4. Then the word of Yahweh Sabaoth was addressed to me as follows,

4. Da erging an mich das Wort des Herrn der Heere:

5. 'Say to all the people of the country and to the priests, "While you have been fasting and mourning in the fifth and seventh months for the past seventy years, have you really been fasting for my sake?

5. Sag dem ganzen Volk auf dem Land und den Priestern: Ihr habt gefastet und Klage abgehalten im fünften und im siebten Monat, und das siebzig Jahre lang - aber bin ich es, für den ihr so streng gefastet habt?

6. And when you were eating and drinking, were you not eating and drinking for your own sake?

6. Und wenn ihr esst und trinkt, esst ihr dann nicht für euch und trinkt ihr nicht für euch?

7. Do you not know the words which Yahweh proclaimed through the prophets in the past, when Jerusalem was inhabited and secure, as were her surrounding towns, and when the Negeb and the lowlands were inhabited?" ' (

7. Kennt ihr nicht die Worte, die der Herr durch die früheren Propheten verkünden ließ, als man Jerusalem und die Städte ringsum sorglos bewohnte, als der Negeb und die Schefela noch bewohnt waren?

8. The word of Yahweh was addressed to Zechariah as follows,

8. Und das Wort des Herrn erging an Sacharja:

9. 'Yahweh Sabaoth says this.) He said, "Apply the law fairly, and show faithful love and compassion towards one another.

9. So spricht der Herr der Heere: Haltet gerechtes Gericht, jeder zeige seinem Bruder gegenüber Güte und Erbarmen;

10. Do not oppress the widow and the orphan, the foreigner and the poor, and do not secretly plan evil against one another."

10. unterdrückt nicht die Witwen und Waisen, die Fremden und Armen und plant in eurem Herzen nichts Böses gegeneinander!

11. But they would not listen; they turned a rebellious shoulder; they stopped their ears rather than hear;

11. Doch sie weigerten sich hinzuhören, sie zeigten sich störrisch und verstopften ihre Ohren, um nicht zu hören.

12. they made their hearts adamant rather than listen to the teaching and the words that Yahweh Sabaoth had sent -- by his spirit -- through the prophets in the past; and consequently the fury of Yahweh Sabaoth overtook them.

12. Sie machten ihr Herz hart wie Diamant, um die Weisung und die Worte nicht hören zu müssen, die der Herr der Heere in der Kraft seines Geistes durch die früheren Propheten gesandt hat. Deshalb kam der große Zorn des Herrn der Heere über sie,

13. And so, since when he called they would not listen, "I would not listen when they called", says Yahweh Sabaoth,

13. und es geschah dies: Wie er einst rief und sie nicht hörten, so riefen nun sie und ich hörte nicht, spricht der Herr der Heere.

14. "but scattered them among all the nations unknown to them. Hence, after they had gone, the country was deserted, and no one came or went. They had turned a land of delights into a desert." '

14. Ich habe sie unter alle Völker verweht, die ihnen unbekannt waren. Nach ihnen verödete das Land, sodass niemand mehr darin hin- und herzog, und so haben sie das Land der Freuden zur Wüste gemacht.
