1 Kings, 11

34. Nevertheless, it is not from him that I will take the kingdom. I will let him reign during his lifetime for the sake of David my servant, whom I chose and who kept my commandments and statutes.

1 Kings 11 describes the apostasy of King Solomon, who disobeyed the Lord by marrying many foreign women and allowing them to introduce idolatry in Israel. 1 Kings 11:43: "And Solomon slept with his parents, and was buried in the city of David, his father; and Robuam, his son, reigned in his place." This verse shows how Solomon's reign came to an end, leaving a mixed legacy of great wisdom and wealth, but also of disobedience and apostasy.
