How I thank our Lord Christ Jesus, the source of all my strength, for shewing confidence in me by appointing me his minister, (1 Timothy 1, 12)
and yet I was pardoned, so that in me first of all Christ Jesus might give the extreme example of his patience; I was to be the pattern of all those who will ever believe in him, to win eternal life. (1 Timothy 1, 16)
This charge, then, I give into thy hands, my son Timothy, remembering how prophecy singled thee out, long ago. Serve, as it bade thee, in this honourable warfare, (1 Timothy 1, 18)
with faith and a good conscience to aid thee. Some, through refusing this duty, have made shipwreck of the faith; (1 Timothy 1, 19)
among them, Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have made over to Satan, till they are cured of their blasphemy.✻ (1 Timothy 1, 20)
This, first of all, I ask; that petition, prayer, entreaty and thanksgiving should be offered for all mankind, (1 Timothy 2, 1)
since it is his will that all men should be saved, and be led to recognize the truth; (1 Timothy 2, 4)
there is only one God, and only one mediator between God and men, Jesus Christ, who is a man, like them, (1 Timothy 2, 5)
and gave himself as a ransom for them all. At the appointed time, he bore his witness, (1 Timothy 2, 6)
and of that witness I am the chosen herald, sent as an apostle (I make no false claims, I am only recalling the truth) to be a true and faithful teacher of the Gentiles.✻ (1 Timothy 2, 7)
It is my wish that prayer should everywhere be offered by the men; they are to lift up hands that are sanctified, free from all anger and dispute.✻ (1 Timothy 2, 8)
So, too, with the women; they are to dress themselves modestly and with restraint in befitting attire; no plaited hair, no gold ornaments, or pearls, or rich clothes; (1 Timothy 2, 9)
