1 Maccabees, 9

6. When his men saw the great number of the troops, they were very much afraid, and many slipped away from the camp, until only eight hundred men remained.

1 Maccabees 9 describes the war between the armies of Judas Macabeu and Baquids, General of the Seleucid King. The chapter begins with a description of the Backet Strategy to attack Judas and his men, followed by a battle that occurs on a mountainous slope. 2 Chronicles 20:15: "He said unto him, Listen to me, all of Judah and Jerusalem, and you, O Jehoshaphat! Thus saith the Lord about you: You do not fear, nor are you scary because of this great multitude. ; for the battle is not yours, but of God. Psalm 44:6: "I don't trust my bow, nor can my sword save me." This verse deals with the theme of confidence in weapons and physical strength. In 1 Maccabees 9, Judas Macabeu and his men are overcome by the soldiers of baquids, but trust God to help them overcome the battle.
