Chapter 12 of 1 kings describes the division of the kingdom of Israel after Solomon's death when his son Roban becomes king. Jeroboam, who was a servant of Solomon, leads the rebellion and becomes the king of the Northern Kingdom, which is called Israel, while Roban rules the southern kingdom, called Judah.
