Acts, 1

1. In my earlier work, Theophilus, I dealt with everything Jesus had done and taught from the beginning

1. Im ersten Buch, lieber Theophilus, habe ich über alles berichtet, was Jesus getan und gelehrt hat,

2. until the day he gave his instructions to the apostles he had chosen through the Holy Spirit, and was taken up to heaven.

2. bis zu dem Tag, an dem er (in den Himmel) aufgenommen wurde. Vorher hat er durch den Heiligen Geist den Aposteln, die er sich erwählt hatte, Anweisungen gegeben.

3. He had shown himself alive to them after his Passion by many demonstrations: for forty days he had continued to appear to them and tell them about the kingdom of God.

3. Ihnen hat er nach seinem Leiden durch viele Beweise gezeigt, dass er lebt; vierzig Tage hindurch ist er ihnen erschienen und hat vom Reich Gottes gesprochen.

4. While at table with them, he had told them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait there for what the Father had promised. 'It is', he had said, 'what you have heard me speak about:

4. Beim gemeinsamen Mahl gebot er ihnen: Geht nicht weg von Jerusalem, sondern wartet auf die Verheißung des Vaters, die ihr von mir vernommen habt.

5. John baptised with water but, not many days from now, you are going to be baptised with the Holy Spirit.'

5. Johannes hat mit Wasser getauft, ihr aber werdet schon in wenigen Tagen mit dem Heiligen Geist getauft.

6. Now having met together, they asked him, 'Lord, has the time come for you to restore the kingdom to Israel?'

6. Als sie nun beisammen waren, fragten sie ihn: Herr, stellst du in dieser Zeit das Reich für Israel wieder her?

7. He replied, 'It is not for you to know times or dates that the Father has decided by his own authority,

7. Er sagte zu ihnen: Euch steht es nicht zu, Zeiten und Fristen zu erfahren, die der Vater in seiner Macht festgesetzt hat.

8. but you will receive the power of the Holy Spirit which will come on you, and then you will be my witnesses not only in Jerusalem but throughout Judaea and Samaria, and indeed to earth's remotest end.'

8. Aber ihr werdet die Kraft des Heiligen Geistes empfangen, der auf euch herabkommen wird; und ihr werdet meine Zeugen sein in Jerusalem und in ganz Judäa und Samarien und bis an die Grenzen der Erde.

9. As he said this he was lifted up while they looked on, and a cloud took him from their sight.

9. Als er das gesagt hatte, wurde er vor ihren Augen emporgehoben, und eine Wolke nahm ihn auf und entzog ihn ihren Blicken.

10. They were still staring into the sky as he went, when suddenly two men in white were standing beside them,

10. Während sie unverwandt ihm nach zum Himmel emporschauten, standen plötzlich zwei Männer in weißen Gewändern bei ihnen

11. and they said, 'Why are you Galileans standing here looking into the sky? This Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven will come back in the same way as you have seen him go to heaven.'

11. und sagten: Ihr Männer von Galiläa, was steht ihr da und schaut zum Himmel empor? Dieser Jesus, der von euch ging und in den Himmel aufgenommen wurde, wird ebenso wiederkommen, wie ihr ihn habt zum Himmel hingehen sehen.

12. So from the Mount of Olives, as it is called, they went back to Jerusalem, a short distance away, no more than a Sabbath walk;

12. Dann kehrten sie vom Ölberg, der nur einen Sabbatweg von Jerusalem entfernt ist, nach Jerusalem zurück.

13. and when they reached the city they went to the upper room where they were staying; there were Peter and John, James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Jude son of James.

13. Als sie in die Stadt kamen, gingen sie in das Obergemach hinauf, wo sie nun ständig blieben: Petrus und Johannes, Jakobus und Andreas, Philippus und Thomas, Bartholomäus und Matthäus, Jakobus, der Sohn des Alphäus, und Simon, der Zelot, sowie Judas, der Sohn des Jakobus.

14. With one heart all these joined constantly in prayer, together with some women, including Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.

14. Sie alle verharrten dort einmütig im Gebet, zusammen mit den Frauen und mit Maria, der Mutter Jesu, und mit seinen Brüdern.

15. One day Peter stood up to speak to the brothers -- there were about a hundred and twenty people in the congregation,

15. In diesen Tagen erhob sich Petrus im Kreis der Brüder - etwa hundertzwanzig waren zusammengekommen - und sagte:

16. 'Brothers,' he said, 'the passage of scripture had to be fulfilled in which the Holy Spirit, speaking through David, foretells the fate of Judas, who acted as guide to the men who arrested Jesus-

16. Brüder! Es musste sich das Schriftwort erfüllen, das der Heilige Geist durch den Mund Davids im voraus über Judas gesprochen hat. Judas wurde zum Anführer derer, die Jesus gefangen nahmen.

17. after being one of our number and sharing our ministry.

17. Er wurde zu uns gezählt und hatte Anteil am gleichen Dienst.

18. As you know, he bought a plot of land with the money he was paid for his crime. He fell headlong and burst open, and all his entrails poured out.

18. Mit dem Lohn für seine Untat kaufte er sich ein Grundstück. Dann aber stürzte er vornüber zu Boden, sein Leib barst auseinander und alle Eingeweide fielen heraus.

19. Everybody in Jerusalem heard about it and the plot came to be called "Bloody Acre", in their language Hakeldama.

19. Das wurde allen Einwohnern von Jerusalem bekannt; deshalb nannten sie jenes Grundstück in ihrer Sprache Hakeldamach, das heißt Blutacker.

20. Now in the Book of Psalms it says: Reduce his encampment to ruin and leave his tent unoccupied. And again: Let someone else take over his office.

20. Denn es steht im Buch der Psalmen: Sein Gehöft soll veröden, niemand soll darin wohnen! und: Sein Amt soll ein anderer erhalten!

21. 'Out of the men who have been with us the whole time that the Lord Jesus was living with us,

21. Einer von den Männern, die die ganze Zeit mit uns zusammen waren, als Jesus, der Herr, bei uns ein und aus ging,

22. from the time when John was baptising until the day when he was taken up from us, one must be appointed to serve with us as a witness to his resurrection.'

22. angefangen von der Taufe durch Johannes bis zu dem Tag, an dem er von uns ging und (in den Himmel) aufgenommen wurde, - einer von diesen muss nun zusammen mit uns Zeuge seiner Auferstehung sein.

23. Having nominated two candidates, Joseph known as Barsabbas, whose surname was Justus, and Matthias,

23. Und sie stellten zwei Männer auf: Josef, genannt Barsabbas, mit dem Beinamen Justus, und Matthias.

24. they prayed, 'Lord, you can read everyone's heart; show us therefore which of these two you have chosen

24. Dann beteten sie: Herr, du kennst die Herzen aller; zeige, wen von diesen beiden du erwählt hast,

25. to take over this ministry and apostolate, which Judas abandoned to go to his proper place.'

25. diesen Dienst und dieses Apostelamt zu übernehmen. Denn Judas hat es verlassen und ist an den Ort gegangen, der ihm bestimmt war.

26. They then drew lots for them, and as the lot fell to Matthias, he was listed as one of the twelve apostles.

26. Dann gaben sie ihnen Lose; das Los fiel auf Matthias und er wurde den elf Aposteln zugerechnet.
