Actes des Apôtres, 20

1. Lorsque le tumulte eut pris fin, Paul fit venir les disciples, les exhorta, prit congé d'eux et partit pour se rendre en Macédoine.

1. When the disturbance was over, Paul had the disciples summoned and, after encouraging them, he bade them farewell and set out on his journey to Macedonia.

2. Il parcourut cette contrée, exhorta (les frères) par de nombreux discours et vint en Grèce,

2. As he traveled throughout those regions, he provided many words of encouragement for them. Then he arrived in Greece,

3. où il passa trois mois. Il se disposait à s'embarquer pour la Syrie, quand les Juifs lui dressèrent des embûches; (alors) il fut d'avis de s'en retourner par la Macédoine.

3. where he stayed for three months. But when a plot was made against him by the Jews as he was about to set sail for Syria, he decided to return by way of Macedonia.

4. L'accompagnaient jusqu'en Asie : Sopater, de Bérée, fils de Pyrrhus; Aristarque et Secundus, de Thessalonique; Gaius, de Derbé, et Timothée; Tychique et Trophime, d'Asie.

4. Sopater, the son of Pyrrhus, from Beroea, accompanied him, as did Aristarchus and Secundus from Thessalonica, Gaius from Derbe, Timothy, and Tychicus and Trophimus from Asia

5. Ceux-ci prirent les devants et nous attendirent à Troas.

5. who went on ahead and waited for us at Troas.

6. Pour nous, après les jours des Azymes, nous nous embarquâmes à Philippes, et au bout de cinq jours nous les rejoignîmes à Troas, où nous passâmes sept jours.

6. We sailed from Philippi after the feast of Unleavened Bread, and rejoined them five days later in Troas, where we spent a week.

7. Or, le premier jour de la semaine, comme nous étions assemblés pour la fraction du pain, Paul, qui devait partir le lendemain, discourait avec (les frères), et il prolongea son discours jusqu'à minuit.

7. On the first day of the week when we gathered to break bread, Paul spoke to them because he was going to leave on the next day, and he kept on speaking until midnight.

8. Il y avait beaucoup de lampes dans la salle haute où nous étions assemblés.

8. There were many lamps in the upstairs room where we were gathered,

9. Or un jeune homme, nommé Eutyche, qui était assis sur la fenêtre, pris par un sommeil profond tandis que Paul discourait longuement, fut entraîné par le sommeil, tomba du troisième en bas et fut relevé mort.

9. and a young man named Eutychus who was sitting on the window sill was sinking into a deep sleep as Paul talked on and on. Once overcome by sleep, he fell down from the third story and when he was picked up, he was dead.

10. Mais Paul, étant descendu, se pencha sur lui et le prit dans ses bras, disant : " Ne vous troublez pas, car son âme est en lui. "

10. Paul went down, threw himself upon him, and said as he embraced him, "Don't be alarmed; there is life in him."

11. Puis étant remonté, il rompit le pain et mangea, et après avoir conversé assez longtemps, jusqu'au point du jour, il partit ainsi.

11. Then he returned upstairs, broke the bread, and ate; after a long conversation that lasted until daybreak, he departed.

12. On ramena le garçon vivant, et on (en) fut grandement consolé.

12. And they took the boy away alive and were immeasurably comforted.

13. Pour nous, prenant les devants sur la bateau, nous fîmes voile pour Assos, où nous devions reprendre Paul; car il l'avait ainsi ordonné, devant lui-même aller par terre.

13. We went ahead to the ship and set sail for Assos where we were to take Paul on board, as he had arranged, since he was going overland.

14. Quand il nous eut rejoints, à Assos, nous le prîmes à bord, et nous vînmes à Mytilène.

14. When he met us in Assos, we took him aboard and went on to Mitylene.

15. De là, en naviguant, nous arrivâmes le lendemain à la hauteur de Chio. Le jour suivant, nous cinglâmes vers Samos, et nous vînmes, le jour d'après, à Milet.

15. We sailed away from there on the next day and reached a point off Chios, and a day later we reached Samos, and on the following day we arrived at Miletus.

16. Paul en effet avait résolu de passer Ephèse, afin de ne pas perdre de temps en Asie : il se hâtait pour être, s'il lui était possible, le jour de la Pentecôte à Jérusalem.

16. Paul had decided to sail past Ephesus in order not to lose time in the province of Asia, for he was hurrying to be in Jerusalem, if at all possible, for the day of Pentecost.

17. Or, de Milet, il envoya à Ephèse pour faire venir les Anciens de la communauté.

17. From Miletus he had the presbyters of the church at Ephesus summoned.

18. Lorsqu'ils furent arrivés près de lui, il leur dit : " Vous savez comment, depuis le premier jour où je suis entré en Asie, je me suis comporté avec vous tout le temps,

18. When they came to him, he addressed them, "You know how I lived among you the whole time from the day I first came to the province of Asia.

19. servant le Seigneur en toute humilité, au milieu des larmes et des épreuves que me suscitaient les embûches des Juifs;

19. I served the Lord with all humility and with the tears and trials that came to me because of the plots of the Jews,

20. comment je n'ai rien omis de ce qui (vous) était avantageux, vous prêchant et vous donnant l'enseignement auprès des Juifs, et des Grecs pour la conversion à Dieu et la foi en notre Seigneur Jésus.

20. and I did not at all shrink from telling you what was for your benefit, or from teaching you in public or in your homes.

21. I earnestly bore witness for both Jews and Greeks to repentance before God and to faith in our Lord Jesus.

22. Et maintenant voici que, l'esprit contraint, je vais à Jérusalem, sans savoir ce qui m'y arrivera, si ce n'est que dans chaque ville l'Esprit-Saint m'assure que des chaînes et des persécutions m'attendent.

22. But now, compelled by the Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem. What will happen to me there I do not know,

23.

23. except that in one city after another the holy Spirit has been warning me that imprisonment and hardships await me.

24. Mais je ne tiens aucunement que la vie soit précieuse pour moi, pourvu que j'accomplisse ma course et le ministère que j'ai reçu du Seigneur Jésus : attester l'Evangile de la grâce de Dieu.

24. Yet I consider life of no importance to me, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to bear witness to the gospel of God's grace.

25. Et maintenant, pour moi, je sais que vous ne verrez plus mon visage, vous tous parmi lesquels j'ai passé en prêchant le royaume de Dieu.

25. "But now I know that none of you to whom I preached the kingdom during my travels will ever see my face again.

26. C'est pourquoi je vous atteste aujourd'hui que je suis pur du sang de tous,

26. And so I solemnly declare to you this day that I am not responsible for the blood of any of you,

27. car je n'ai pas omis de vous annoncer tout le dessein de Dieu.

27. for I did not shrink from proclaiming to you the entire plan of God.

28. Prenez garde à vous-mêmes et à tout le troupeau sur lequel l'Esprit-Saint vous a établis évêques, pour paître l'Eglise de Dieu, qu'il s'est acquise par son propre sang.

28. Keep watch over yourselves and over the whole flock of which the holy Spirit has appointed you overseers, in which you tend the church of God that he acquired with his own blood.

29. Moi, je sais qu'après mon départ il entrera chez vous des loups cruels qui n'épargneront pas le troupeau,

29. I know that after my departure savage wolves will come among you, and they will not spare the flock.

30. et qu'il s'élèvera du milieu de vous des hommes qui enseigneront des doctrines perverses pour entraîner les disciples après eux.

30. And from your own group, men will come forward perverting the truth to draw the disciples away after them.

31. C'est pourquoi veillez, vous souvenant que, durant trois années, nuit et jour, je n'ai point cessé d'exhorter avec larmes chacun de vous.

31. So be vigilant and remember that for three years, night and day, I unceasingly admonished each of you with tears.

32. Et maintenant je vous recommande à Dieu et à la parole de sa grâce, à celui qui peut édifier et donner l'héritage avec tous les sanctifiés.

32. And now I commend you to God and to that gracious word of his that can build you up and give you the inheritance among all who are consecrated.

33. Je n'ai rien désiré ni argent, ni or, ni vêtement quelconque.

33. I have never wanted anyone's silver or gold or clothing.

34. Vous savez vous-mêmes que ces mains ont pourvu à mes besoins et à ceux des personnes qui étaient avec moi.

34. You know well that these very hands have served my needs and my companions.

35. En tout je vous ai montré que c'est en travaillant ainsi qu'il faut soutenir les faibles et se souvenir des paroles du Seigneur Jésus, qui a dit lui-même : Il y a plus de bonheur à donner qu'à recevoir. "

35. In every way I have shown you that by hard work of that sort we must help the weak, and keep in mind the words of the Lord Jesus who himself said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'"

36. Après avoir dit cela, il se mit à genoux et pria avec eux tous.

36. When he had finished speaking he knelt down and prayed with them all.

37. Ils fondaient tous en larmes, et se jetant au cou de Paul, ils l'embrassaient,

37. They were all weeping loudly as they threw their arms around Paul and kissed him,

38. affligés surtout de ce qu'il avait dit qu'ils ne devaient plus voir son visage. Et ils l'accompagnaient jusqu'au bateau.

38. for they were deeply distressed that he had said that they would never see his face again. Then they escorted him to the ship.
