1. Elisée, le prophète, appela un des fils des prophètes et lui dit: « Ceins tes reins, prends en ta main cette fiole d'huile et va à Ramoth-en-Galaad.

1. The prophet Elisha called one of the guild prophets and said to him: "Gird your loins, take this flask of oil with you, and go to Ramoth-gilead.

2. Quand tu y seras arrivé, regarde après Jéhu, fils de Josaphat, fils de Namsi; et, l'ayant abordé, tu le feras lever du milieu de ses frères, et tu le conduiras dans une chambre retirée.

2. When you get there, look for Jehu, son of Jehoshaphat, son of Nimshi. Enter and take him away from his companions into an inner chamber.

3. Tu prendras la fiole d'huile, tu la répandras sur sa tête et tu diras: Ainsi dit Yahweh: Je t'oins roi d'Israël. Puis tu ouvriras la porte et tu t'enfuiras sans tarder. »

3. From the flask you have, pour oil on his head, and say, 'Thus says the LORD: I anoint you king over Israel.' Then open the door and flee without delay."

4. Le jeune homme, serviteur du prophète, partit pour Ramoth-en-Galaad.

4. The young man (the guild prophet) went to Ramoth-gilead.

5. Lorsqu'il arriva, voici que les chefs de l'armée étaient assis. Il dit: « Chef, j'ai un mot à te dire. » Et Jéhu dit: « Auquel de nous tous? » Il répondit: « A toi, chef. »

5. When he arrived, the commanders of the army were in session. "I have a message for you, commander," he said. "For which one of us?" asked Jehu. "For you, commander," he answered.

6. Jéhu se leva et entra dans la maison; et le jeune homme répandit l'huile sur sa tête, en lui disant: « Ainsi dit Yahweh, Dieu d'Israël: Je t'oins roi du peuple de Yahweh, d'Israël.

6. Jehu got up and went into the house. Then the young man poured the oil on his head and said, "Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: 'I anoint you king over the people of the LORD, over Israel.

7. Tu frapperas la maison d'Achab, ton maître, et je vengerai sur Jézabel le sang de mes serviteurs les prophètes et le sang de tous les serviteurs de Yahweh.

7. You shall destroy the house of Ahab your master; thus will I avenge the blood of my servants the prophets, and the blood of all the other servants of the LORD shed by Jezebel,

8. Toute la maison d'Achab périra; j'exterminerai tout mâle appartenant à Achab, celui qui est esclave et celui qui est libre en Israël,

8. and by all the rest of the family of Ahab. I will cut off every male in Ahab's line, whether slave or freeman in Israel.

9. je rendrai la maison d'Achab semblable à la maison de Jéroboam, fils de Nabat, et à la maison de Baasa, fils d'Ahia.

9. I will deal with the house of Ahab as I dealt with the house of Jeroboam, son of Nebat, and with the house of Baasha, son of Ahijah.

10. Les chiens mangeront Jézabel dans le champ de Jézrahel, et il n'y aura personne pour l'enterrer. » Et le jeune homme, ouvrant la porte, s'enfuit.

10. Dogs shall devour Jezebel at the confines of Jezreel, so that no one can bury her.'" Then he opened the door and fled.

11. Alors Jéhu sortit pour rejoindre les serviteurs de son maître. Ils lui dirent: « Tout va-t-il bien? Pourquoi ce fou est-il venu vers toi? » Il leur répondit: « Vous connaissez l'homme et son langage. »

11. When Jehu rejoined his master's servants, they asked him, "Is all well? Why did that madman come to you?" You know that kind of man and his talk, he replied.

12. Ils répliquèrent: « Mensonge! Déclare-le-nous! » Et il dit: « Il m'a parlé de telle et telle manière, disant: Ainsi dit Yahweh: Je t'oins roi d'Israël. »

12. But they said, "Not at all! Come, tell us." So he told them what the young man had said to him, and finally, "Thus says the LORD: 'I anoint you king over Israel.'"

13. Aussitôt, chacun prenant son manteau, ils le mirent sous Jéhu, au haut des degrés; ils sonnèrent de la trompette et dirent: « Jéhu est roi! »

13. At once each took his garment, spread it under Jehu on the bare steps, blew the trumpet, and cried out, "Jehu is king!"

14. Jéhu , fils de Josaphat, fils de Namsi, forma une conspiration contre Joram. --Joram et tout Israël défendaient alors Ramoth-en-Galaad contre Hazaël, roi de Syrie;

14. Thus Jehu, son of Jehoshaphat, son of Nimshi, formed a conspiracy against Joram. Joram, with all Israel, had been besieging Ramoth-gilead against Hazael, king of Aram,

15. mais le roi Joram s'en était retourné pour se faire guérir à Jezrahel des blessures que les Syriens lui avaient faites, lorsqu'il se battait contre Hazaël, roi de Syrie. -- Jéhu dit: « Si c'est votre désir, que personne ne s'échappe de la ville pour aller porter la nouvelle à Jezrahel. »

15. but had returned to Jezreel to be healed of the wounds the Arameans had inflicted on him in the battle against Hazael, king of Aram. "If you are truly with me," Jehu said, "see that no one escapes from the city to report in Jezreel."

16. Et Jéhu, étant monté sur son char, partit pour Jezrahel, car Joram y était couché, et Ochozias, roi de Juda, était descendu pour visiter Joram.

16. Then Jehu mounted his chariot and drove to Jezreel, where Joram lay ill and Ahaziah, king of Judah, had come to visit him.

17. La sentinelle qui se tenait sur la tour à Jezrahel vit venir la troupe de Jéhu et dit: « Je vois une troupe. » Et Joram dit: « Prends un cavalier et envoie-le au-devant d'eux pour demander: Est-ce la paix? »

17. The watchman standing on the tower in Jezreel saw the troop of Jehu coming and reported, "I see chariots." "Get a driver," Joram said, "and send him to meet them and to ask whether all is well."

18. Le cavalier alla au-devant de Jéhu et dit: « Ainsi dit le roi: Est-ce la paix? » Et Jéhu répondit: « Que t'importe la paix? Passe derrière moi. » La sentinelle en donna son avis, en disant: « Le messager est allé jusqu'à eux, et il ne revient pas. »

18. So a driver went out to meet him and said, "The king asks whether all is well." "What does it matter to you how things are?" Jehu said. "Get behind me." The watchman reported to the king, "The messenger has reached them, but is not returning."

19. Joram envoya un second cavalier, qui arriva vers eux et dit: « Ainsi dit le roi: Esc-ce la paix? » Et Jéhu répondit: « Que t'importe la paix?; passe derrière moi. »

19. Joram sent a second driver, who went to them and said, "The king asks whether all is well." "What does it matter to you how things are?" Jehu replied. "Get behind me."

20. La sentinelle en donna avis, en disant: « Le messager est allé jusqu'à eux, et il ne revient pas. Et la manière de conduire est comme la manière de conduire de Jéhu, fils de Namsi, car il conduit d'une manière insensée. »

20. The watchman reported, "The messenger has reached them, but is not returning. The driving is like that of Jehu, son of Nimshi, in its fury."

21. Alors Joram dit: « Attelle; » et on attela son char. Joram, roi d'Israël, et Ochozias, roi de Juda, sortirent chacun sur son char; ils sortirent au-devant de Jéhu, et ils le rencontrèrent dans le champ de Naboth de Jezrahel.

21. "Prepare my chariot," said Joram. When they had done so, Joram, king of Israel, and Ahaziah, king of Judah, set out, each in his own chariot, to meet Jehu. They reached him near the field of Naboth the Jezreelite.

22. En apercevant Jéhu, Joram lui dit: « Est-ce la paix, Jéhu? » Jéhu répondit: « Quelle paix, tant que durent les prostitutions de Jézabel, ta mère, et ses nombreux sortilèges? »

22. When Joram recognized Jehu, he asked, "Is all well, Jehu?" "How can all be well," Jehu replied, "as long as the many fornications and witchcrafts of your mother Jezebel continue?"

23. Joram tourna bride et s'enfuit, et il dit à Ochozias: « Trahison, Ochozias! »

23. Joram reined about and fled, crying to Ahaziah, "Treason, Ahaziah!"

24. Mais Jéhu saisit son arc de sa main, et frappa Joram entre les épaules: la flèche sortit par le coeur, et Joram s'affaissa dans son char.

24. But Jehu drew his bow and shot Joram between the shoulders, so that the arrow went through his heart and he collapsed in his chariot.

25. Et Jéhu dit à son officier Badacer: « Prends-le et jette-le dans le champ de Naboth de Jezrahel. Car, souviens-toi: lorsque moi et toi nous chevauchions ensemble derrière Achab, son père, Yahweh prononça contre lui cette sentence:

25. Then Jehu said to his adjutant Bidkar, "Take him and throw him into the field of Naboth the Jezreelite. For I remember that when we were driving teams behind his father Ahab, the LORD delivered this oracle against him:

26. « Aussi vrai que j'ai vu hier le sang de Naboth et le sang de ses fils, oracle de Yahweh, je te rendrai la pareille dans ce champ même, oracle de Yahweh. Prends-le donc et jette-le dans le champ, selon la parole de Yahweh. »

26. 'As surely as I saw yesterday the blood of Naboth and the blood of his sons,' says the LORD, 'I will repay you for it in that very plot of ground, says the LORD.' So now take him into this plot of ground, in keeping with the word of the LORD."

27. Ochozias, roi de Juda, voyant cela, s'enfuit par le chemin de la maison du jardin. Jéhu le poursuivit et dit: « Frappez-le, lui aussi, sur le char! » Et on le frappa à la montée de Gaver, près de Jeblaam. Il s'enfuit à Mageddo, et il y mourut.

27. Seeing what was happening, Ahaziah, king of Judah, fled toward Beth-haggan. Jehu pursued him, shouting, "Kill him too!" And they pierced him as he rode through the pass of Gur near Ibleam. He continued his flight as far as Megiddo and died there.

28. Ses serviteurs le transportèrent sur un char à Jérusalem, et ils l'enterrèrent dans son sépulcre avec ses pères, dans la ville de David.

28. His servants brought him in a chariot to Jerusalem and buried him in the tomb of his ancestors in the City of David.

29. Ochozias était devenu roi de Juda la onzième année de Joram, fils d'Achab.

29. Ahaziah had become king of Judah in the eleventh year of Joram, son of Ahab.

30. Jéhu entra dans Jezrahel. Jézabel, l'ayant appris, mit du fard à ses yeux, se para la tête et regarda par la fenêtre.

30. When Jezebel learned that Jehu had arrived in Jezreel, she shadowed her eyes, adorned her hair, and looked down from her window.

31. As Jehu came through the gate, she cried out, "Is all well, Zimri, murderer of your master?"

32. Jehu looked up to the window and shouted, "Who is on my side? Anyone?" At this, two or three eunuchs looked down toward him.

33. il dit: « Jetez-la en bas! » Ils la jetèrent en bas, et il rejaillit de son sang sur la muraille et sur les chevaux, et Jéhu la foula aux pieds.

33. "Throw her down," he ordered. They threw her down, and some of her blood spurted against the wall and against the horses. Jehu rode in over her body

34. Puis il entra et, ayant mangé et bu, il dit: « Allez voir cette maudite et enterrez-la, car elle est fille de roi. »

34. and, after eating and drinking, he said: "Attend to that accursed woman and bury her; after all, she was a king's daughter."

35. Ils allèrent pour l'enterrer, mais ils ne trouvèrent d'elle que le crâne, les pieds et les paumes de ses mains.

35. But when they went to bury her, they found nothing of her but the skull, the feet, and the hands.

36. Ils retournèrent l'annoncer à Jéhu, qui dit: « Telle est la parole de Yahweh, qu'il avait prononcée par son serviteur Elie le Thesbite, en disant: Dans le champ de Jezrahel, les chiens mangeront la chair de Jézabel;

36. They returned to Jehu, and when they told him, he said, "This is the sentence which the LORD pronounced through his servant Elijah the Tishbite: 'In the confines of Jezreel dogs shall eat the flesh of Jezebel.

37. et le cadavre de Jézabel sera comme du fumier sur la surface du champ, dans le champ de Jezrahel, de sorte qu'on ne pourra pas dire: c'est Jézabel. »

37. The corpse of Jezebel shall be like dung in the field in the confines of Jezreel, so that no one can say: This was Jezebel.'"
