Exodus, 14

20. And it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel; and it was a cloud and darkness [to them], but it gave light by night [to these]: so that the one came not near the other all the night.

Exodus 14 tells the story of the Red Sea crossing by the people of Israel as they fled slavery in Egypt. The chapter begins with God giving Moses to instructions on how to camp before the sea and continues with the persecution of Pharaoh and his army until the arrival of the moment when the Red Sea is divided and the people of Israel are saved. Isaiah 43:2: "When I pass through the waters, I will be with you, and when through the rivers they will not submerge you; when you pass through fire, you will not burn you, nor the flame will burn in you." This verse brings God's promise that it will be with its people at all times, including in the most difficult and dangerous situations.

1 Corinthians 10:1-2: "For I do not want, brothers, that you will ignore that our parents were all under the cloud, and all passed by the sea; and they were baptized in Moses, the cloud and in the sea." Psalm 106:9: "He rebuked the Red Sea, and he dried himself; he made them walk through the abyss as the desert." This psalm refers to the event that took place in Exodus 14:21, when God opened the Red Sea so that the Israelites could cross it on foot.
