Genesis, 34

7. And the sons of Jacob came out of the field when they heard [it]: and the men were grieved, and they were very wroth, because he had wrought folly in Israel in lying with Jacob's daughter; which thing ought not to be done.

Genesis 34 tells the story of Diná, daughter of Jacob, who is raped by a prince of a neighboring city named Shechem. Diná's brothers, outraged by the incident, plan a revenge against the city of Simém. They deceive the men of Shem and kill them all. Proverbs 31:8-9 - "Open your mouth in favor of the mute, for the right of all the helpless. Open your mouth, judge, and do justice to the poor and the needy." Diná was raped and his brothers sought revenge, but the result was an even more violent situation.

Matthew 5:38-39-"You have heard what has been said, 'I look at an eye, and tooth for a tooth." But I say unto them, Do not resist the perverse. If anyone hurts him on his right face, offer him the other. " This verse highlights the importance of not responding to violence with more violence, but of seeking peace and reconciliation. Diná's brothers responded to their sister's rape with violence and murder, creating an even more problematic situation.
