In Job chapter 5, Elifaz, one of Job's friends, responds to Job's affliction and tries to comfort him. Elifaz argues that God does not punish the righteous, and that Job must repent of his sins to find the restoration. Following are five verses related to the topics covered in Job 5:
Psalm 34:19: "There are many afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him from all." This verse talks about the difficulties that the righteous face, but also about God's faithfulness to free them.
Proverbs 3:11-12: "Do not despise, my son, the punishment of the Lord, nor faints when he is rebuked by him; for the Lord punishes whom he loves, just as the Father to the Son to whom he wants well." This verse addresses the idea that suffering can be a means of correction and discipline by God.
2 Corinthians 1:3-4: "Blessed be the God and the Father of Our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of Mercies and God of all consolation, who comforts us in all our tribulations, so that we may also comfort those who are in Some tribulation, with the consolation we are comforted by God. " This verse talks about God's consolation in times of tribulation, and the importance of sharing this consolation with others.
James 5:11: "Behold, we have Blessed are those who have suffered. You have heard what was the patience of Job, and saw the end that the Lord gave him; for the Lord is full of mercy and compassionate." This verse mentions Job's patience in the midst of affliction, and emphasizes God's compassion and mercy.
Isaiah 41:10: "Do not fear, because I am with you, do not haunt yourself, because I am your God; I strengthen you, and help you, and I support you with my faithful right hand." This verse talks about the presence of God and his faithfulness to sustain and strengthen those who trust in Him.
