Jeremiah, 35

18. But to the company of the Rechabites Jeremiah said: Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Since you have obeyed the command of Jonadab, your father, kept all his commands and done everything he commanded you,

Jeremiah 35 narrates the story of the Recabitas, a family who had committed to following the commandments of his Jonadab ancestor. God uses the faithfulness of the recabilities as an example for the people of Judah, who had moved away from him. The verses related to the themes of this chapter are:

Exodus 20:12: "Honor Your Father and Your Mother, that you may have a long life on the earth that the Lord, your God, gives you." The Recabitals honored and obeyed their ancestor, Jonadab, demonstrating respect for the traditions and teachings of their ancestors.
