Deuteronomy 27 is a chapter that presents instructions on the ceremony of consecration of God's law in the promised land. The people of Israel should perform this ceremony when entering the earth that God had promised them. The ceremony consisted of writing the law on large stones and erecting an altar to the Lord. Half of the people should stand on Mount Gerizim, and the other half should stay on Mount Ebal, while the priests gave blessings and curses. Below are five verses related to the topics addressed in Deuteronomy 27:
Deuteronomy 6:6-9: "These words that I command today will be in your heart. You will teach them diligently to your children and speak of them when you are sitting at your home, when you are walking the way, when you lie down and when you get up . You will tie them as a sign in your hands and will be like tracks on your forehead. Write them in the batty of your home and in your gates. " This verse emphasizes the importance of teaching God's law to future generations, the central theme of the ceremony described in Deuteronomy 27.
Deuteronomy 31:12-13: "Gather the people, men, women and children, and foreigners resident in their cities, that they may hear and learn to fear the Lord, their God, and carefully follow all the words of this law. Children, who do not know her, will hear her and learn to fear the Lord, your God, as long as you live on the earth you are going, crossing the Jordan to take it as inheritance. " This verse again highlights the importance of teaching God's law to future generations.
Joshua 8:30-35: This passage tells the realization of the ceremony described in Deuteronomy 27. The instructions given in Deuteronomy were followed by the Israelites, which shows the importance they gave to the consecration of God's law.
Nehemiah 8:1-8: This excerpt describes another occasion when God's law was publicly read to the people of Israel. Again, the goal was to teach the law to listeners and renew the people's commitment to it.
Psalm 1:1-2: "Blessed is the man who does not follow the Council of the wicked, does not stop on the way to sinners, nor rest on the wheel of mocking!
