2 Samuel, 3

39. Although I am the anointed king, I am weak this day, and these men, the sons of Zeruiah, are too ruthless for me. May the LORD requite the evildoer in accordance with his evil deed."

Chapter 3 of 2 Samuel describes the long struggle between Saul's house and David's house for Israel's control. Abner, the commander of Saul's army, refuses to submit to David after Saul's death, and chooses a new king to Israel, Is-Boste, son of Saul. However, the war between the two houses continues, and Abner is eventually killed by Joab, the commander of the Army of David.

2 Samuel 3:1 - "There was a long war between Saul's house and David's house. David became increasingly strong, while Saul's house increasingly weak." This verse summarizes the main theme of the chapter, which is the struggle for power between the two houses.
