2 Samuel, 3

22. Just then David's servants and Joab were coming in from an expedition, bringing much plunder with them. Abner, having been dismissed by David, was no longer with him in Hebron but had gone his way in peace.

Chapter 3 of 2 Samuel describes the long struggle between Saul's house and David's house for Israel's control. Abner, the commander of Saul's army, refuses to submit to David after Saul's death, and chooses a new king to Israel, Is-Boste, son of Saul.
