1 Chronicles, 19

5. When David was informed of what had happened to his men, he sent messengers to meet them, for the men had been greatly disgraced. "Remain at Jericho," the king told them, "until your beards have grown again; and then you may come back here."

1 Chronicles 19 tells the history of war between David and the Ammonites. The chapter begins with David showing goodness to Hanum, son of the ammonite king, but Hanum insults him and humiliates him, which leads to war between the two peoples. Deuteronomy 20:4 - "For the Lord, your God, is what goes with you, to fight against your enemies to save you." This verse shows that David knew that God was with him in the battle against the Ammonites, and that gave him confidence to fight.
