2 Samuel, 6

1. David again assembled all the picked men of Israel, thirty thousand in number.

1. David again mustered all the picked troops of Israel, thirty thousand men.

2. Then David and all the people who were with him set out for Baala of Judah to bring up from there the ark of God, which bears the name of the LORD of hosts enthroned above the cherubim.

2. Setting off with the whole force then with him, David went to Baalah of Judah, from there to bring up the ark of God, who bears the title 'Yahweh Sabaoth, enthroned on the winged creatures'.

3. The ark of God was placed on a new cart and taken away from the house of Abinadab on the hill. Uzzah and Ahio, sons of Abinadab, guided the cart,

6. When they came to the threshing floor of Nodan, Uzzah reached out his hand to the ark of God and steadied it, for the oxen were making it tip.

7. But the LORD was angry with Uzzah; God struck him on that spot, and he died there before God.

7. This roused Yahweh's anger against Uzzah, and for this crime God struck him down on the spot, and there he died beside the ark of God.

8. David was disturbed because the LORD had vented his anger on Uzzah. (The place has been called Perez-uzzah down to the present day.)

8. David resented Yahweh's having broken out against Uzzah, and the place was given the name Perez-Uzzah, which it still has today.

9. David feared the LORD that day and said, "How can the ark of the LORD come to me?"

10. So David would not have the ark of the LORD brought to him in the City of David, but diverted it to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.

11. The ark of the LORD remained in the house of Obed-edom the Gittite for three months, and the LORD blessed Obed-edom and his whole house.

12. When it was reported to King David that the LORD had blessed the family of Obed-edom and all that belonged to him, David went to bring up the ark of God from the house of Obed-edom into the City of David amid festivities.

12. King David was informed that Yahweh had blessed Obed-Edom's family and everything belonging to him on account of the ark of God. David accordingly went and, amid great rejoicing, brought the ark of God up from Obed-Edom's house to the City of David.

13. As soon as the bearers of the ark of the LORD had advanced six steps, he sacrificed an ox and a fatling.

13. When the bearers of the ark of Yahweh had gone six paces, he sacrificed an ox and a fat sheep.

14. Then David, girt with a linen apron, came dancing before the LORD with abandon,

14. And David danced whirling round before Yahweh with all his might, wearing a linen loincloth.

15. as he and all the Israelites were bringing up the ark of the LORD with shouts of joy and to the sound of the horn.

15. Thus with war cries and blasts on the horn, David and the entire House of Israel brought up the ark of Yahweh.

16. As the ark of the LORD was entering the City of David, Saul's daughter Michal looked down through the window and saw King David leaping and dancing before the LORD, and she despised him in her heart.

16. Now as the ark of Yahweh entered the City of David, Michal daughter of Saul was watching from the window and when she saw King David leaping and whirling round before Yahweh, the sight of him filled her with contempt.

17. The ark of the LORD was brought in and set in its place within the tent David had pitched for it. Then David offered holocausts and peace offerings before the LORD.

17. They brought the ark of Yahweh in and put it in position, inside the tent which David had erected for it; and David presented burnt offerings and communion sacrifices in Yahweh's presence.

18. When he finished making these offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD of hosts.

18. And when David had finished presenting burnt offerings, he blessed the people in the name of Yahweh Sabaoth.

19. He then distributed among all the people, to each man and each woman in the entire multitude of Israel, a loaf of bread, a cut of roast meat, and a raisin cake. With this, all the people left for their homes.

19. To all the people, to the whole multitude of Israelites, men and women, he then distributed to each a loaf of bread, a portion of dates and a raisin cake. Then the people all went back to their homes.

20. When David returned to bless his own family, Saul's daughter Michal came out to meet him and said, "How the king of Israel has honored himself today, exposing himself to the view of the slave girls of his followers, as a commoner might do!"

20. As David was coming back to bless his household, Michal daughter of Saul came out to meet him. 'Much honour the king of Israel has won today,' she said, 'making an exhibition of himself under the eyes of his servant-maids, making an exhibition of himself like a buffoon!'

21. But David replied to Michal: "I was dancing before the LORD. As the LORD lives, who preferred me to your father and his whole family when he appointed me commander of the LORD'S people, Israel, not only will I make merry before the LORD,

21. David replied to Michal, 'I was dancing for Yahweh, not for them. As Yahweh lives, who chose me in preference to your father and his whole family to make me leader of Israel, Yahweh's people, I shall dance before Yahweh and

22. but I will demean myself even more. I will be lowly in your esteem, but in the esteem of the slave girls you spoke of I will be honored."

22. lower myself even further than that. In your eyes I may be base, but by the maids you speak of, by them, I shall be held in honour!'

23. And so Saul's daughter Michal was childless to the day of her death.

6:1-5 - Il viaggio di Davide a Kiriat-Iearim per portare l'Arca dell'Alleanza sottolinea la centralità del culto e la ricerca della presenza di Dio tra il popolo. Il trasporto dell'Arca è un atto di grande riverenza e celebrazione (vedi anche Salmo 132:8-9 e 1 Cronache 13:1-4).
