31. But Jo'ash said to all who were arrayed against him, "Will you contend for Ba'al? Or will you defend his cause? Whoever contends for him shall be put to death by morning. If he is a god, let him contend for himself, because his altar has been pulled down."
Judges 6 tells the story of Gideon, a young man who was called by God to lead the Israelites in the fight against the Midianites. Gideon at first proved incredulous and asked God to prove his mission. God granted these proofs to Gideon, who finally gathered an army to face the Midianites. Therefore, I will glory even more happily in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ rests on me. " This verse speaks of how God uses human weaknesses to demonstrate His power. Gideon was a weak and incapable man, but God used him to defeat the Midianites, thus showing his power and his grace.
1 Samuel 17:45: "David said to the Philistine, 'You come against me with a sword, spear and dart, but I go against you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the hosts of Israel, whom you challenged. '"This verse speaks of the importance of trusting God in times of difficulty. David trusted God to defeat Goliath, and Gideon also trusted God to lead the Israelites against the Midianites. Both men believed that God was with them and could do great things through Him.
