St. John 19 reports the crucifixion of Jesus. The chapter describes in detail the scene of the condemnation of Jesus by Pilate, his flagellation and coronation of thorns, the walk to the golgota, the crucifixion and, finally, the death of Jesus. Psalm 22:18: "They shared my garments, and on my tunic they launched sorts." This prophetic verse of Psalm 22 is quoted in John 19:24, where it is mentioned as being fulfilled during the crucifixion of Jesus, when the Roman soldiers cast luck to decide who would have their garments.
