1 Maccabees, 3

58. And Judas said, "Gird yourselves and be valiant. Be ready early in the morning to fight with these Gentiles who have assembled against us to destroy us and our sanctuary.

1 Maccabees 3 narrates Judas Macabeu's first victories against the Greek forces, who tried to impose their culture and religion on the Jewish people. The chapter describes the Judas Army organization and its battle strategies. Next are five verses related to the topics addressed in 1 Maccabees 3:
