1 Maccabees, 3

37. Then the king took the remaining half of his troops and departed from Antioch his capital in the one hundred and forty-seventh year. He crossed the Euphrates river and went through the upper provinces.

1 Maccabees 3 narrates Judas Macabeu's first victories against the Greek forces, who tried to impose their culture and religion on the Jewish people. The chapter describes the Judas Army organization and its battle strategies. Next are five verses related to the topics addressed in 1 Maccabees 3:

Deuteronomy 20:4: "For the Lord, your God, will accompany you and fight for you against your enemies to give you victory." This verse talks about divine aid in the struggle against enemies and shows the importance of faith in God in times of war.
