22. Then the other woman spoke. 'That is not true! My son is the live one, yours is the dead one'; and the first retorted, 'That is not true! Your son is the dead one, mine is the live one.' And so they wrangled before the king.

1 Kings 3 reports Solomon's wisdom and his choice to ask God for wisdom rather than riches or fame. God is pleased with Solomon's choice and gives him exceptional wisdom, which is demonstrated in a trial involving two women vying for a child's motherhood. Below are five verses related to the topics covered in 1 Kings 3:

Proverbs 2:6: "For the Lord gives wisdom, and knowledge comes from his mouth and understanding." This verse points out that wisdom comes from God, which is exactly what Solomon asks in 1 Kings 3.

Proverbs 3:13: "Blessed man who finds wisdom, and the man who acquires knowledge." This verse shows the importance of wisdom, which Solomon seeks in 1 kings 3.

Ecclesiastes 1:16-18: "I said with my heart, saying, I am rich, and I became much more than all who before me went to Jerusalem; and also persever with me my heart in the knowledge of wisdom with me and of knowledge. And I applied my heart to know wisdom and to know the divestments and follies; and I came to know that it was also affliction of spirit. Because in a lot of wisdom there is a long time; and what increases in knowledge, increases in pain. Proverbs 16:16: "The better it is to acquire wisdom than gold! And the more excellent, acquire prudence than silver!" This verse points out that wisdom is more valuable than material riches, a lesson that Solomon learns in 1 kings 3.
