Joel, 4

1. 'For in those days and at that time, when I restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem,

1. Denn seht, in jenen Tagen, in jener Zeit, / wenn ich das Geschick Judas und Jerusalems wende,

2. I shall gather all the nations together and take them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat; there I shall put them on trial because of Israel, my people and my heritage, for having scattered them among the nations and having divided my land among themselves.

2. versammle ich alle Völker / und führe sie hinab zum Tal Joschafat; dort streite ich im Gericht mit ihnen / um Israel, mein Volk und meinen Erbbesitz. Denn sie haben es unter die Völker zerstreut / und mein Land aufgeteilt.

3. They drew lots for my people, bartering a boy for a whore and selling a girl for wine to drink.

3. Sie haben über mein Volk das Los geworfen, / einen Knaben haben sie der Dirne als Lohn gegeben / und Mädchen für Wein verkauft, um zu zechen.

4. 'And what are you to me, Tyre and Sidon and all you regions of Philistia? Can you take revenge on me? If you take revenge on me, I shall quickly, instantly, make your revenge recoil on your own heads

4. Und auch ihr, Tyrus und Sidon, und alle ihr Gaue der Philister, was wollt ihr von mir? Wollt ihr mir vergelten, was ich euch angetan habe? Oder wollt ihr mir selbst etwas antun? Leicht und schnell lasse ich eure Taten auf euch selbst zurückfallen.

5. for having taken my silver and gold away and carried off my valuable treasures to your temples,

5. Denn ihr habt mein Silber und Gold genommen und meine kostbaren Schätze in eure Paläste gebracht.

6. and for having sold the children of Judah and Jerusalem to the Ionians, to be taken far away from their own frontiers.

6. Ihr habt Judas und Jerusalems Söhne an die Jawaniter verkauft, um sie aus ihrer Heimat zu entfernen.

7. Look, I shall rouse them from the places to which you have sold them; I shall make your actions recoil on your own heads

7. Seht her, ich lasse sie aufbrechen von dem Ort, wohin ihr sie verkauft habt, und lasse eure Taten auf euch selbst zurückfallen.

8. by selling your sons and daughters to the sons of Judah, who in turn will sell them to the Sabaeans, to a nation far away- Yahweh has spoken!'

8. Und ich verkaufe eure Söhne und Töchter an die Söhne Judas und diese verkaufen sie weiter an die Sabäer, ein Volk in weiter Ferne. Ja, der Herr hat gesprochen.

9. Proclaim this among the nations. Prepare for war! Rouse the champions! All you troops, advance, march!

9. Ruft den Völkern zu: / Ruft den Heiligen Krieg aus! Bietet eure Kämpfer auf! / Alle Krieger sollen anrücken und heraufziehen.

10. Hammer your ploughshares into swords, your bill-hooks into spears; let the weakling say, 'I am tough!'

10. Schmiedet Schwerter aus euren Pflugscharen / und Lanzen aus euren Winzermessern! / Der Schwache soll sagen: Ich bin ein Kämpfer.

11. Hurry and come, all the nations around, and assemble there! (Yahweh, send down your champions!)

11. Eilt alle herbei, / versammelt euch, ihr Völker ringsum! / Dorthin führe, Herr, deine Kämpfer hinab!

12. 'Let the nations rouse themselves and march to the Valley of Jehoshaphat, for there I shall sit in judgement on all the nations around.

12. Die Völker sollen aufbrechen und heraufziehen zum Tal Joschafat. / Denn dort will ich zu Gericht sitzen über alle Völker ringsum.

13. Ply the sickle, for the harvest is ripe; come and tread, for the winepress is full; the vats are overflowing, so great is their wickedness!'

13. Schwingt die Sichel, / denn die Ernte ist reif. Kommt, tretet die Kelter, / denn sie ist voll, die Tröge fließen über. / Denn ihre Bosheit ist groß.

14. Multitude on multitude in the Valley of Decision! For the Day of Yahweh is near in the Valley of the Verdict!

14. Getöse und Getümmel herrscht / im Tal der Entscheidung; denn der Tag des Herrn ist nahe / im Tal der Entscheidung.

15. Sun and moon grow dark, the stars lose their brilliance.

15. Sonne und Mond verfinstern sich, / die Sterne halten ihr Licht zurück.

16. Yahweh roars from Zion, he thunders from Jerusalem; heaven and earth tremble. But Yahweh will be a shelter for his people, a stronghold for the Israelites.

16. Der Herr brüllt vom Zion her, / aus Jerusalem dröhnt seine Stimme, / sodass Himmel und Erde erbeben. Doch für sein Volk ist der Herr eine Zuflucht, / er ist eine Burg für Israels Söhne.

17. 'Then you will know that I am Yahweh your God residing on Zion, my holy mountain. Jerusalem will then be a sanctuary, no foreigners will overrun it ever again.'

17. Dann werdet ihr erkennen, / dass ich der Herr, euer Gott, bin und dass ich auf dem Zion wohne, / meinem heiligen Berg. Jerusalem wird heilig sein, / Fremde werden nie mehr hindurchziehen.

18. When that Day comes, the mountains will run with new wine and the hills will flow with milk, and all the stream-beds of Judah will run with water. A fountain will spring from Yahweh's Temple and water the Gorge of the Acacias.

18. An jenem Tag triefen die Berge von Wein, / die Hügel fließen über von Milch / und in allen Bächen Judas strömt Wasser. Eine Quelle entspringt im Haus des Herrn / und tränkt das Schittim-Tal.

19. Egypt will become a desolation, and Edom a desert waste on account of the violence done to the children of Judah whose innocent blood they shed in their country.

19. Ägypten wird zur Wüste, / Edom wird zur verödeten Steppe, wegen der Gewalttat an Judas Söhnen, / in deren Land sie unschuldiges Blut vergossen.

20. But Judah will be inhabited for ever, and Jerusalem from generation to generation!

20. Juda aber bleibt für immer bewohnt / und Jerusalem besteht von Geschlecht zu Geschlecht,

21. 'I shall avenge their blood and let none go unpunished,' and Yahweh will dwell in Zion.

21. [ich erkläre ihr Blut für unschuldig, / das ich vorher nicht für unschuldig erklärte,] / und der Herr wohnt auf dem Zion.
