2 Chronicles, 21

1. Then Jehoshaphat fell asleep with his ancestors and was buried with them in the city of David; his son Jehoram succeeded him.

1. Joschafat entschlief zu seinen Vätern und wurde bei seinen Vätern in der Davidstadt begraben. Sein Sohn Joram wurde König an seiner Stelle.

2. Jehoram's brothers, sons of Jehoshaphat, were Azariah, Jehiel, Zechariah, Azariahu, Michael and Shephatiah -- all of them sons of Jehoshaphat king of Israel.

2. Seine Brüder, die Söhne Joschafats, waren: Asarja, Jehiël, Secharja, Asarja, Michael und Schefatja; sie alle waren Söhne Joschafats, des Königs von Juda.

3. Their father had lavishly given them presents of silver, gold and other valuables as well as fortified towns in Judah; but the throne he bequeathed to Jehoram since he was the first-born.

3. Ihr Vater gab ihnen reiche Geschenke an Silber, Gold und anderen Kostbarkeiten, dazu befestigte Städte in Juda. Das Königtum aber verlieh er Joram; denn dieser war der Erstgeborene.

4. Jehoram, having taken control of his father's kingdom and secured his own position, put all his brothers to the sword and some officials of Israel too.

4. Doch Joram erhob sich gegen das Königtum seines Vaters, gewann die Oberhand und ließ alle seine Brüder und auch einige führende Männer Israels mit dem Schwert hinrichten.

5. Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for eight years in Jerusalem.

5. Joram war zweiunddreißig Jahre alt, als er König wurde, und regierte acht Jahre in Jerusalem.

6. He followed the example of the kings of Israel as the House of Ahab were doing, he having married one of Ahab's daughters; and he did what is displeasing to Yahweh.

6. Er folgte den Wegen der Könige von Israel, wie es das Haus Ahab getan hatte; denn er hatte eine Tochter Ahabs zur Frau und er tat, was dem Herrn missfiel.

7. But Yahweh would not destroy the House of David, because of the covenant which he had made with David, promising to provide him and his sons with a lamp for ever.

7. Doch der Herr wollte das Haus David nicht verderben wegen des Bundes, den er mit David geschlossen hatte, und weil er ihm versprochen hatte, er werde ihm und seinen Söhnen für immer eine Leuchte geben.

8. In his time Edom threw off the domination of Judah and set up a king for itself.

8. In den Tagen Jorams fiel Edom von Juda ab und setzte einen eigenen König ein.

9. Jehoram crossed the frontier, and with him his commanders and all his chariots. Under cover of dark, he and his chariot commanders broke through the Edomites surrounding him.

9. Joram zog daher mit seinen Obersten und allen Kriegswagen gegen sie. Während der Nacht griff er an und schlug die Edomiter, die ihn und die Obersten der Kriegswagen umzingelt hatten.

10. Thus Edom threw off the domination of Judah and has remained free to the present day. Libnah revolted against him at the same time, because he had abandoned Yahweh, God of his ancestors.

10. Doch Edom fiel von Juda ab und ist abtrünnig bis zum heutigen Tag. Damals, zur gleichen Zeit, fiel auch Libna von Juda ab; denn Joram hatte den Herrn, den Gott seiner Väter, verlassen.

11. What is more, he set up high places in the highlands of Judah, leading the citizens of Jerusalem and the people of Judah into apostasy.

11. Auch errichtete er Kulthöhen auf den Bergen Judas und verführte die Einwohner Jerusalems zur Untreue und Juda zum Abfall.

12. Something written by the prophet Elijah then came into his hands. It said, 'Yahweh, God of your ancestor David, says this, "Since you have not followed the example of your father Jehoshaphat or of Asa king of Judah,

12. Damals traf ein Schreiben des Propheten Elija bei ihm ein. Es hatte folgenden Inhalt: So spricht der Herr, der Gott deines Vaters David: Weil du nicht auf den Wegen deines Vaters Joschafat und auf den Wegen Asas, des Königs von Juda,

13. but have followed the example of the kings of Israel and have led Judah and the citizens of Jerusalem into apostasy, just as the House of Ahab has led Israel into apostasy, and have even murdered your brothers, your own family, who were better men than you,

13. sondern auf den Wegen der Könige von Israel gegangen bist, weil du Juda und die Einwohner Jerusalems zur Untreue verführt hast, wie es das Haus Ahab getan hat, und weil du deine eigenen Brüder aus der Familie deines Vaters, die besser waren als du, getötet hast,

14. Yahweh is going to afflict your people, your sons, your wives and all your property with a great calamity,

14. darum wird der Herr dein Volk, deine Söhne und Frauen und deinen ganzen Besitz mit harten Schlägen treffen.

15. and you yourself with a severe disease affecting your bowels, as a result of which disease, continuing day after day, you will suffer protrusion of your bowels." '

15. Du selbst wirst in schweres Siechtum verfallen und an deinen Eingeweiden erkranken, sodass sie nach Jahr und Tag infolge der Krankheit herausfallen werden.

16. Yahweh then roused the hostility of the Philistines and of the Arabs living near the Cushites against Jehoram.

16. Der Herr reizte nun den Wagemut der Philister und der Araber, die neben den Kuschitern wohnen, gegen Joram auf.

17. They invaded Judah, forcing their way into it and carrying off all the property to be found in the king's palace, as well as his sons and his wives, so that he was left no sons at all except his youngest son Jehoahaz.

17. Sie zogen gegen Juda, überfielen das Land und nahmen den ganzen Besitz weg, der sich im Palast des Königs fand; auch seine Söhne und Frauen führten sie weg. Es blieb ihm kein Sohn außer Joahas, dem jüngsten von ihnen.

18. And after all this, Yahweh afflicted him with an incurable disease of the bowels;

18. Nach all dem schlug der Herr den Joram mit einer unheilbaren Krankheit in den Eingeweiden.

19. in due time, after about two years, his bowels protruded as a result of his disease and he died in acute pain. His people did not make a funeral pyre for him, as they had for his ancestors.

19. Nach Jahr und Tag, zwei Tage vor seinem Ende, fielen infolge der Krankheit seine Eingeweide heraus und er starb unter großen Schmerzen. Das Volk zündete zu seiner Ehre kein Feuer an, wie das bei seinen Vätern geschehen war.

20. He was thirty-two years old when he came to the throne and he reigned for eight years in Jerusalem. He passed away unlamented and was buried in the City of David, though not in the tombs of the kings.

20. Er war zweiunddreißig Jahre alt, als er König wurde, und regierte acht Jahre in Jerusalem. Er ging dahin, von niemand bedauert. Man begrub ihn in der Davidstadt, aber nicht in den Gräbern der Könige.
