Liber Proverbiorum, 4

1. Audite, filii, disciplinam patris et attendite, ut sciatis prudentiam;

1. Hear, O sons, a father's instruction, and be attentive, that you may gain insight;

2. quoniam doctrinam bonam tribuam vobis, legem meam ne derelinquatis.

2. for I give you good precepts: do not forsake my teaching.

3. Nam et ego filius fui patris mei, tenellus et unigenitus coram matre mea;

3. When I was a son with my father, tender, the only one in the sight of my mother,

4. et docebat me atque dicebat: “Suscipiat verba mea cor tuum, custodi praecepta mea et vives.

4. he taught me, and said to me, "Let your heart hold fast my words; keep my commandments, and live;

5. Posside sapientiam, posside prudentiam, ne obliviscaris neque declines a verbis oris mei.

5. do not forget, and do not turn away from the words of my mouth. Get wisdom; get insight.

6. Ne dimittas eam, et custodiet te, dilige eam, et servabit te.

6. Do not forsake her, and she will keep you; love her, and she will guard you.

7. Principium sapientiae: posside sapientiam et in omni possessione tua acquire prudentiam.

7. The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight.

8. Arripe illam, et exaltabit te, glorificaberis ab ea, cum eam fueris amplexatus.

8. Prize her highly, and she will exalt you; she will honor you if you embrace her.

9. Dabit capiti tuo diadema gratiae, et corona inclita proteget te”.

9. She will place on your head a fair garland; she will bestow on you a beautiful crown."

10. Audi, fili mi, et suscipe verba mea, ut multiplicentur tibi anni vitae.

10. Hear, my son, and accept my words, that the years of your life may be many.

11. Viam sapientiae monstravi tibi; duxi te per semitas aequitatis,

11. I have taught you the way of wisdom; I have led you in the paths of uprightness.

12. quas cum ingressus fueris, non arctabuntur gressus tui, et currens non habebis offendiculum.

12. When you walk, your step will not be hampered; and if you run, you will not stumble.

13. Tene disciplinam nec laxes; custodi illam, quia ipsa est vita tua.

13. Keep hold of instruction, do not let go; guard her, for she is your life.

14. Ne ingrediaris in semitas impiorum nec procedas in malorum via.

14. Do not enter the path of the wicked, and do not walk in the way of evil men.

15. Fuge ab ea nec transeas per illam; declina et desere eam.

15. Avoid it; do not go on it; turn away from it and pass on.

16. Non enim dormiunt, nisi malefecerint, et rapitur somnus ab eis, nisi supplantaverint.

16. For they cannot sleep unless they have done wrong; they are robbed of sleep unless they have made some one stumble.

17. Comedunt enim panem impietatis et vinum iniquitatis bibunt.

17. For they eat the bread of wickedness and drink the wine of violence.

18. Iustorum autem semita quasi lux splendens procedit et crescit usque ad perfectam diem.

18. But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, which shines brighter and brighter until full day.

19. Via impiorum tenebrosa; nesciunt, ubi corruant.

19. The way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know over what they stumble.

20. Fili mi, ausculta sermones meos et ad eloquia mea inclina aurem tuam;

20. My son, be attentive to my words; incline your ear to my sayings.

21. ne recedant ab oculis tuis, custodi ea in medio cordis tui:

21. Let them not escape from your sight; keep them within your heart.

22. vita enim sunt invenientibus ea, et universae carni sanitas.

22. For they are life to him who finds them, and healing to all his flesh.

23. Omni custodia serva cor tuum, quia ex ipso vita procedit.

23. Keep your heart with all vigilance; for from it flow the springs of life.

24. Remove a te os pravum, et detrahentia labia sint procul a te.

24. Put away from you crooked speech, and put devious talk far from you.

25. Oculi tui recta videant, et palpebrae tuae dirigantur coram te.

25. Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you.

26. Observa semitam pedum tuorum, et omnes viae tuae stabilientur.

26. Take heed to the path of your feet, then all your ways will be sure.

27. Ne declines ad dexteram neque ad sinistram, averte pedem tuum a malo.

27. Do not swerve to the right or to the left; turn your foot away from evil.

4:1-4 - L'invito ad ascoltare l'insegnamento del padre rivela l'importanza di trasmettere la saggezza di generazione in generazione. La via della saggezza è la via della vita, trasmessa attraverso un insegnamento fedele (cfr anche Deuteronomio 6,6-7 ed Efesini 6,4).

4:5-7 - La saggezza dovrebbe essere ricercata con fervore, perché è la cosa principale. L'invito ad "acquistare saggezza" ne sottolinea l'importanza per una vita retta e di successo (vedi anche Giacomo 1:5 e Proverbi 16:16).

4:10-13 - L'insegnamento saggio prolunga la vita e mantiene i piedi sulla retta via. La saggezza custodisce e protegge coloro che la abbracciano, evidenziando la sua natura preservatrice (vedi anche Proverbi 3:18 e Salmo 119:105).

4:14-19 - Viene sottolineato il contrasto tra il cammino dei giusti e quello degli empi. La vita dei giusti è come la luce dell'alba, mentre la via degli empi è tenebra, dove si inciampa continuamente (vedi anche Salmo 1:6 e 1 Giovanni 1:5-7).

4:20-27 - Custodire il cuore è fondamentale per vivere saggiamente. Il cuore è la fonte della vita e i nostri pensieri, parole e azioni devono essere guidati dalla saggezza che viene da Dio (vedi anche Filippesi 4:8 e Matteo 12:34-35).

Versi relativi a Liber Proverbiorum, 4:

Proverbi capitolo 4 sottolinea l’importanza di acquisire e preservare la saggezza. Perché dovremmo custodire i nostri cuori? Questo testo persuasivo utilizza la metafora di un padre che consiglia il figlio, evidenziando il valore inestimabile della saggezza. Il capitolo avverte di evitare il sentiero dei malvagi e di seguire il sentiero della rettitudine. Anche Proverbi 4 presenta la saggezza come fonte di vita e salute. Efesini 5:15-16: "Stai attento al modo in cui vivi; non siate così stolti, ma saggi, sfruttando ogni occasione, perché i giorni sono brutti." - Fa eco a Proverbi 4:26-27 riguardo al considerare attentamente il sentiero dei tuoi piedi.

Salmi 119:105: "La tua parola è una lampada che illumina i miei passi e una luce che illumina il mio cammino." - Si riferisce a Proverbi 4:18 sulla via del giusto che è come la luce dell'alba.

Matteo 6:22-23: "Gli occhi sono la lampada del corpo. Se i tuoi occhi sono buoni, tutto il tuo corpo sarà pieno di luce. Ma se i tuoi occhi sono malvagi, tutto il tuo corpo sarà tenebroso." - Completa Proverbi 4:23-27 riguardo al custodire il cuore e gli occhi.

Galati 6:9: "E non stanchiamoci di fare il bene, perché a suo tempo mieteremo, se non ci perdiamo d'animo." - Rifletti Proverbi 4:18 sul sentiero dei giusti che brillano sempre più luminosi.
