Liber II Paralipomenon, 7

1. Cumque complesset Salomon fundens preces, ignis descendit de caelo et devoravit holocaustum et victimas, et maiestas Domini implevit domum.

1. When Solomon had ended his prayer, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the LORD filled the temple.

2. Nec poterant sacerdotes ingredi templum Domini, eo quod implesset maiestas Domini templum Domini.

2. And the priests could not enter the house of the LORD, because the glory of the LORD filled the LORD's house.

3. Sed et omnes filii Israel videbant descendentem ignem et gloriam Domini super domum et corruentes proni in terram super pavimentum stratum lapide adoraverunt et laudaverunt Dominum: “Quoniam bonus, quoniam in saeculum misericordia eius”.

3. When all the children of Israel saw the fire come down and the glory of the LORD upon the temple, they bowed down with their faces to the earth on the pavement, and worshiped and gave thanks to the LORD, saying, "For he is good, for his steadfast love endures for ever."

4. Rex autem et omnis populus immolabant victimas coram Domino.

4. Then the king and all the people offered sacrifice before the LORD.

5. Mactavit igitur rex Salomon hostias boum viginti duo milia, ovium centum viginti milia, et dedicavit domum Dei rex et universus populus.

5. King Solomon offered as a sacrifice twenty-two thousand oxen and a hundred and twenty thousand sheep. So the king and all the people dedicated the house of God.

6. Sacerdotes autem stabant in officiis suis et Levitae in organis carminum Domini, quae fecit David rex ad laudandum Dominum: “Quoniam in aeternum misericordia eius”, hymnos David canentes per manus suas. Porro sacerdotes canebant tubis ante eos, cunctusque Israel stabat.

6. The priests stood at their posts; the Levites also, with the instruments for music to the LORD which King David had made for giving thanks to the LORD -- for his steadfast love endures for ever -- whenever David offered praises by their ministry; opposite them the priests sounded trumpets; and all Israel stood.

7. Sanctificavit quoque Salomon medium atrii ante templum Domini; obtulerat enim ibi holocausta et adipes pacificorum, quia altare aeneum, quod fecerat, non poterat sustinere holocausta et oblationes et adipes.

7. And Solomon consecrated the middle of the court that was before the house of the LORD; for there he offered the burnt offering and the fat of the peace offerings, because the bronze altar Solomon had made could not hold the burnt offering and the cereal offering and the fat.

8. Fecit ergo Salomon sollemnitatem in tempore illo septem diebus, et omnis Israel cum eo, ecclesia magna valde ab introitu Emath usque ad torrentem Aegypti.

8. At that time Solomon held the feast for seven days, and all Israel with him, a very great congregation, from the entrance of Hamath to the Brook of Egypt.

9. Feceruntque die octavo collectam magnam, eo quod dedicassent altare septem diebus et sollemnitatem celebrassent diebus septem.

9. And on the eighth day they held a solemn assembly; for they had kept the dedication of the altar seven days and the feast seven days.

10. Igitur in die vicesimo tertio mensis septimi dimisit populum ad tabernacula sua, laetantem atque gaudentem super bono, quod fecerat Dominus Davidi et Salomoni et Israeli populo suo.

10. On the twenty-third day of the seventh month he sent the people away to their homes, joyful and glad of heart for the goodness that the LORD had shown to David and to Solomon and to Israel his people.

11. Complevitque Salomon domum Domini et domum regis; et in omnibus, quae disposuerat in corde suo, ut faceret in domo Domini et in domo sua, prosperatus est.

11. Thus Solomon finished the house of the LORD and the king's house; all that Solomon had planned to do in the house of the LORD and in his own house he successfully accomplished.

12. Apparuit autem ei Dominus nocte et ait: “Audivi orationem tuam et elegi locum istum mihi in domum sacrificii.

12. Then the LORD appeared to Solomon in the night and said to him: "I have heard your prayer, and have chosen this place for myself as a house of sacrifice.

13. Si clausero caelum, et pluvia non fluxerit, et mandavero et praecepero locustae, ut devoret terram, et misero pestilentiam in populum meum,

13. When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command the locust to devour the land, or send pestilence among my people,

14. humiliatus autem populus meus, super quos invocatum est nomen meum, deprecatus me fuerit et exquisierit faciem meam et egerit paenitentiam a viis suis pessimis, ego exaudiam de caelo et propitius ero peccatis eorum et sanabo terram eorum.

14. if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

15. Nunc oculi mei erunt aperti, et aures meae attentae ad orationem eius, qui in loco isto oraverit;

15. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayer that is made in this place.

16. elegi enim et sanctificavi locum istum, ut sit nomen meum ibi in sempiternum, et permaneant oculi mei et cor meum ibi cunctis diebus.

16. For now I have chosen and consecrated this house that my name may be there for ever; my eyes and my heart will be there for all time.

17. Tu quoque, si ambulaveris coram me, sicut ambulavit David pater tuus, et feceris iuxta omnia, quae praecepi tibi, et decreta et iudicia mea servaveris,

17. And as for you, if you walk before me, as David your father walked, doing according to all that I have commanded you and keeping my statutes and my ordinances,

18. stabiliam thronum regni tui, sicut pollicitus sum David patri tuo dicens: Non auferetur de stirpe tua vir, qui sit princeps in Israel.

18. then I will establish your royal throne, as I covenanted with David your father, saying, `There shall not fail you a man to rule Israel.'

19. Si autem aversi fueritis et dereliqueritis decreta mea et praecepta mea, quae proposui vobis, et abeuntes servieritis diis alienis et adoraveritis eos,

19. "But if you turn aside and forsake my statutes and my commandments which I have set before you, and go and serve other gods and worship them,

20. evellam vos de terra mea, quam dedi vobis, et domum hanc, quam sanctificavi nomini meo, proiciam a facie mea et tradam eam in parabolam et in fabulam cunctis populis.

20. then I will pluck you up from the land which I have given you; and this house, which I have consecrated for my name, I will cast out of my sight, and will make it a proverb and a byword among all peoples.

21. Et super domo ista, quae erat excelsa, universi transeuntes stupebunt et dicent: “Quare fecit Dominus sic terrae huic et domui huic?”.

21. And at this house, which is exalted, every one passing by will be astonished, and say, `Why has the LORD done thus to this land and to this house?"

22. Respondebuntque: “Quia dereliquerunt Dominum, Deum patrum suorum, qui eduxit eos de terra Aegypti, et apprehenderunt deos alienos et adoraverunt eos et coluerunt, idcirco venerunt super eos universa haec mala””.

22. Then they will say, `Because they forsook the LORD the God of their fathers who brought them out of the land of Egypt, and laid hold on other gods, and worshiped them and served them; therefore he has brought all this evil upon them'"

7:1-3 - Dopo la dedicazione, la gloria del Signore riempie il Tempio, dimostrando che Dio approva il luogo di culto e sottolineando l'importanza della presenza divina nel culto (vedere anche Esodo 40:34-35 e Atti 7:2).

7:4-6 - Il sacrificio degli Israeliti simboleggia la loro devozione e il riconoscimento della sovranità di Dio. L'adorazione e l'offerta sono espressioni della gratitudine e dell'impegno del popolo verso il Signore (vedere anche Salmo 50:14 e Filippesi 4:18).

2 Cronache capitolo 7 conclude la dedicazione del Tempio. Come risponde Dio alla consacrazione? Questo potente testo descrive la discesa del fuoco celeste, il consumo dei sacrifici e la gloria di Dio che riempie il Tempio. Il capitolo tratta argomenti come la risposta divina all'adorazione sincera, le condizioni per il risveglio nazionale e le promesse di Dio a Salomone. La celebrazione dura due settimane, unendo il popolo nella gioia. 2 Cronache 7 stabilisce un modello per la relazione tra Dio e il Suo popolo. Il Signore è Dio!'" - Questo evento sul Monte Carmelo riecheggia la manifestazione divina in 2 Cronache 7, dove il fuoco dal cielo consuma il sacrificio.

Giacomo 5:16: "Confessate pertanto i vostri peccati gli uni agli altri e pregate gli uni per gli altri affinché siano guariti. La preghiera di un uomo giusto è potente ed efficace." - Questo versetto riflette il tema dell'efficacia della preghiera, centrale nella risposta di Dio a Salomone in 2 Cronache 7:14.

2 Pietro 3:9: "Il Signore non tarda a compiere la sua promessa, come alcuni pensano. Al contrario, è paziente con voi, non volendo che nessuno perisca, ma che tutti giungano al pentimento." - Questo versetto riecheggia la pazienza e la misericordia di Dio espresse in 2 Cronache 7:14.

Apocalisse 3:19-20: "Rimprovero e disciplina coloro che amo. Quindi sii diligente e pentiti. Ecco, io sto alla porta e busso. Se qualcuno ascolta la mia voce e apre la porta, io entrerò e cenerò con lui, e lui con me." - Questo passaggio riflette i temi del pentimento e del ripristino della relazione con Dio presenti in 2 Cronache 7:14.
