Matthieu, 22

1. Jésus, prenant la parole,leur parla de nouveau en paraboles, et il dit :

1. Jesus again in reply spoke to them in parables, saying,

2. " Le royaume des cieux est semblableà un roi qui fit les noces de son fils.

2. "The kingdom of heaven may be likened to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son.

3. Il envoya ses serviteurs appelerceux qui avaient été invités aux noces, et ils ne voulurent pas venir.

3. He dispatched his servants to summon the invited guests to the feast, but they refused to come.

4. Il envoya encore d'autres serviteurs,disant : " Dites aux invités : Voilà que j'ai préparé mon festin;on a tué mes b?ufs et mes animaux gras; tout est prêt : venez aux noces. "

4. A second time he sent other servants, saying, 'Tell those invited: "Behold, I have prepared my banquet, my calves and fattened cattle are killed, and everything is ready; come to the feast."'

5. Mais ils n'en tinrent pas compte,et ils s'en allèrent, l'un à son champ, l'autre à son négoce;

5. Some ignored the invitation and went away, one to his farm, another to his business.

6. et les autres se saisirent desserviteurs, les outragèrent et les tuèrent.

6. The rest laid hold of his servants, mistreated them, and killed them.

7. Le roi entra en colère,envoya ses armées, extermina ces meurtriers et brûla leur ville.

7. The king was enraged and sent his troops, destroyed those murderers, and burned their city.

8. Allez donc aux carrefours deschemins, et tous ceux que vous trouverez, invitez-les aux noces. " 10 Ces serviteurs sortirent surles chemins, rassemblèrent tous ceux qu'ils trouvèrent, mauvais et bons;et la salle des noces fut remplie de convives.

8. Then he said to his servants, 'The feast is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy to come.

9. Go out, therefore, into the main roads and invite to the feast whomever you find.'

10. The servants went out into the streets and gathered all they found, bad and good alike, and the hall was filled with guests.

11. Le roi entra pour voir ceux quiétaient à table et il aperçut là un homme qui n'était point revêtud'un habit de noce;

11. But when the king came in to meet the guests he saw a man there not dressed in a wedding garment.

12. et il lui dit : " Ami, commentes-tu entré ici sans avoir un habit de noce? " Et lui resta muet.

12. He said to him, 'My friend, how is it that you came in here without a wedding garment?' But he was reduced to silence.

13. Alors le roi dit aux servants: " Liez-lui pieds et mains, et jetez-le dans les ténèbres extérieurs: là il y aura les pleurs et le grincement de dents.

13. Then the king said to his attendants, 'Bind his hands and feet, and cast him into the darkness outside, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.'

14. Car il y a beaucoup d'appelés,mais peu d'élus.

14. Many are invited, but few are chosen."

15. Alors les Pharisiens s'en allèrentet tinrent conseil sur le moyen de le prendre en défaut dans ses paroles.

15. went off and plotted how they might entrap him in speech.

16. Et ils lui envoient leurs disciples,avec des Hérodiens, lui dire : " Maître, nous savons que vous êtes sincèreet que vous enseignez la voie de Dieu et (toute) vérité, sans soucide personne, car vous ne regardez pas au visage des hommes.

16. They sent their disciples to him, with the Herodians, saying, "Teacher, we know that you are a truthful man and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. And you are not concerned with anyone's opinion, for you do not regard a person's status.

17. Dites-nous donc ce qu'il voussemble : Est-il permis, ou non, de payer le tribut à César? "

17. Tell us, then, what is your opinion: Is it lawful to pay the census tax to Caesar or not?"

18. Mais Jésus, connaissantleur malice, dit : " Hypocrites, pourquoi me tendez-vous un piège?

18. Knowing their malice, Jesus said, "Why are you testing me, you hypocrites?

19. Montrez-moi la monnaie du tribut." Et ils lui présentèrent un denier. 20 Et il leur dit : " De qui cetteimage et l'inscription? ?

19. Show me the coin that pays the census tax." Then they handed him the Roman coin.

20. He said to them, "Whose image is this and whose inscription?"

21. De césar, " lui dirent-ils.Alors il leur dit : " Rendez donc à César ce qui est à César, et à Dieu cequi est à Dieu. "

21. They replied, "Caesar's." At that he said to them, "Then repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God."

22. En entendant, ils furent dansl'admiration et, le quittant, ils s'en allèrent.

22. When they heard this they were amazed, and leaving him they went away.

23. Ce jour-là, des Sadducéens,qui nient la résurrection, vinrent à lui et lui posèrent cette question :

23. They put this question to him,

24. " Maître, Moïse adit : Si quelqu'un meurt sans avoir d'enfants, son frère épousera sa femme et susciteraune postérité à son frère.

24. saying, "Teacher, Moses said, 'If a man dies without children, his brother shall marry his wife and raise up descendants for his brother.'

25. Or, il y avait parmi nous septfrères. Le premier se maria et mourut, et comme il n'avait pas de postérité,il laissa sa femme à son frère.

25. Now there were seven brothers among us. The first married and died and, having no descendants, left his wife to his brother.

26. Pareillement, le second, puisle troisième, jusqu'au septième.

26. The same happened with the second and the third, through all seven.

27. Après eux tous, la femmemourut.

27. Finally the woman died.

28. A la résurrection donc,duquel des sept sera-t-elle femme? car tous l'on eue. "

28. Now at the resurrection, of the seven, whose wife will she be? For they all had been married to her."

29. Jésus leur répondit: " Vous êtes dans l'erreur, ne comprenant ni les Ecritures, ni la puissance de Dieu.

29. Jesus said to them in reply, "You are misled because you do not know the scriptures or the power of God.

30. Car, à la résurrection,on n'épouse pas et on n'est pas épousé; mais on est comme des anges de Dieu dans leciel.

30. At the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage but are like the angels in heaven.

31. Quant à la résurrectiondes morts, n'avez-vous pas lu ce que Dieu vous a dit, en ces termes :

31. And concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was said to you by God,

32. Je suis le Dieu d'Abraham, leDieu d'Isaac et le Dieu de Jacob? Dieu n'est pas Dieu des morts, mais des vivants."

32. 'I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'? He is not the God of the dead but of the living."

33. Et les foules, en entendant cela,étaient remplies d'admiration pour son enseignement.

33. When the crowds heard this, they were astonished at his teaching.

34. Les Pharisiens, ayant appris queJésus avait réduit au silence les Sadducéens, se rassemblèrent.

34. When the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together,

35. " Maître, quel est le plusgrand commandement de la Loi? "

35. and one of them (a scholar of the law) tested him by asking,

36.

36. "Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?"

37. Il lui dit : " Tu aimeras leSeigneur ton Dieu de tout ton c?ur, de toute ton âme et de tout ton esprit.

37. He said to him, "You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.

38. C'est là le plus grandet le premier commandement.

38. This is the greatest and the first commandment.

39. Un second lui est égal: Tu aimeras ton proche comme toi-même.

39. The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

40. 2" Que pensez-vous du Christ? Dequi est-il fils? " Ils lui disent : " De David. ?

40. The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments."

41. Les Pharisiens étant rassemblés,Jésus leur fit cette question :

41. While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus questioned them,

42.

42. saying, "What is your opinion about the Messiah? Whose son is he?" They replied, "David's."

43. Comment donc, leur dit-il, David(inspiré) par l'Esprit l'appelle-t-il Seigneur, quand il dit :

43. He said to them, "How, then, does David, inspired by the Spirit, call him 'lord,' saying:

44. Le Seigneur a dit à monSeigneur : Assieds-toi à ma droite, jusqu'à ce que j'aie mis tes ennemis sous tes pieds?

44. 'The Lord said to my lord, "Sit at my right hand until I place your enemies under your feet"'?

45. Si donc David l'appelle Seigneur,comment est-il son fils? "

45. If David calls him 'lord,' how can he be his son?"

46. Et nul ne pouvait lui répondremot, et, depuis ce jour, personne n'osa plus l'interroger.

46. No one was able to answer him a word, nor from that day on did anyone dare to ask him any more questions.
