Exodus, 33

5. And the Lord said to Moses: Say to the children of Israel: Thou are a stiffnecked people; once I shall come up in the midst of thee, and shall destroy thee. Now presently lay aside thy ornaments, that I may know what to do with thee.

Exodus 33 describes the continuation of Moses's relationship with God after the idolatry of the golden calf. In this chapter Moses asks God to accompany him and guide the people of Israel on the journey to the promised land, and God promises that His presence will go with them. Psalm 23:4: "Although I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no harm, because you are with me; your stick and your staff comfort me."
