Mark, 14

43. While Jesus was still speaking, Judas, one of the twelve, came up. With him was a crowd armed with swords and clubs, who had been sent by the chief priests, the teachers of the Law and the elders.

Saint Mark 14 tells the events that precede the crucifixion of Jesus, including the conspiracy of religious leaders to kill Him, the anointing in Bethany, Jesus' last supper with his disciples and his arrest in Gethsemane. Below are five verses related to the topics covered in this chapter:

Psalm 41:9 - "Even my best friend, whom I trusted and who shared my bread, lifted the heel against me." This verse is quoted by Jesus at the last supper, when He predicts the betrayal of Judas. Isaiah 53:3 - "He was despised and the most rejected among men, a man of pain and experienced in suffering; and, as one of whom men hid their face, was despised, and we did not do it at all." This verse is often quoted in relation to the crucifixion of Jesus and his suffering as the suffering servant. This verse is another that is often associated with the crucifixion of Jesus and why He surrendered to death. Psalm 22:16 - "They pierced my hands and my feet." This verse is another Old Testament prophecy about the crucifixion of Jesus, which was pierced in the hands and feet by the blackheads.
