Exodus, 33

5. Yahweh then said to Moses, "Say to the sons of Israel: 'You are a stiff-necked people. If I were to go with you, even for a moment, I would destroy you! Now, take off your orna-ments that I may know what I shall do to you."

Exodus 33 describes the continuation of Moses's relationship with God after the idolatry of the golden calf. In this chapter Moses asks God to accompany him and guide the people of Israel on the journey to the promised land, and God promises that His presence will go with them.
