1 Chronicles, 19

19. When the kings who were subject to Hadadezer saw that they had been defeated by Israel, they made peace with David and became subject to him. After this the Aramaeans refused to give help to the Ammonites.

1 Chronicles 19 tells the history of war between David and the Ammonites. The chapter begins with David showing goodness to Hanum, son of the ammonite king, but Hanum insults him and humiliates him, which leads to war between the two peoples. Deuteronomy 20:4 - "For the Lord, your God, is what goes with you, to fight against your enemies to save you." This verse shows that David knew that God was with him in the battle against the Ammonites, and that gave him confidence to fight.
