1 Maccabees, 9

11. And the army moved from the camp, and they stood to meet them. And the horsemen were divided into two parts, and the stone-slingers and archers went before the army, and the first ones were all powerful men, experienced in combat.

1 Maccabees 9 describes the war between the armies of Judas Macabeu and Baquids, General of the Seleucid King. The chapter begins with a description of the Backet Strategy to attack Judas and his men, followed by a battle that occurs on a mountainous slope. Judas manages to repel the attack, but Báquids continues to chase him with his soldiers. Below are five verses related to the topics covered in 1 Maccabees 9:

2 Samuel 2:26: "Then Abner called Joab and said," Will the sword happen to devour indefinitely? Don't you know that in the end there will be bitterness? This verse addresses the theme of persecution, which is one of the main questions in chapter 9 of 1 Maccabees, where Baquids pursues Judas Macabeu and his men.
