Ecclesiasticus, 45

1. From Jacob's stock he produced a generous man who found favour in the eyes of all humanity, beloved by God and people, Moses, of blessed memory.

1. Geliebt von Gott und den Menschen: / Mose, sein Andenken sei zum Segen.

2. He made him the equal of the holy ones in glory and made him strong, to the terror of his enemies.

2. Er nannte ihn einen Gott / und stärkte ihn zu Furcht erregenden Taten.

3. By the word of Moses, he made prodigies cease and raised him high in the respect of kings; he gave him commandments for his people, and showed him something of his glory.

3. Durch sein Wort ließ er schnell die Zeichen geschehen / und verlieh ihm Macht vor dem König. Er sandte ihn zum Volk / und zeigte ihm seine Herrlichkeit.

4. For his loyalty and gentleness he sanctified him, choosing him alone out of all human beings;

4. Wegen seiner Treue und Bescheidenheit / erwählte er ihn aus allen Sterblichen.

5. he allowed him to hear his voice, and led him into the darkness;

5. Er ließ ihn seine Stimme hören / und zu der dunklen Wolke herantreten. In seine Hand legte er die Gebote, / die Lehre voll Leben und Einsicht, um Jakob seine Gesetze zu lehren / und Israel seine Satzungen und Vorschriften.

6. he gave him the commandments face to face, the law of life and knowledge, to teach Jacob his ordinances and Israel his decrees. He raised up Aaron, a holy man like Moses, his brother, of the tribe of Levi.

6. Gleich ihm erhöhte er einen Heiligen: / Aaron aus dem Stamm Levi.

7. He made an everlasting covenant with him, and gave him the priesthood of the people. He adorned him with impressive vestments, he dressed him in a robe of glory.

7. Er hat ihn bestellt für das ewige Priesteramt / und über ihn seine Hoheit ausgebreitet. Er beglückte ihn mit seiner Herrlichkeit / und umhüllte ihn mit dem schönsten Schmuck.

8. He clothed him in glorious perfection and invested him with rich ornaments, the breeches, the long robe, the ephod.

8. Er kleidete ihn ganz in Pracht / und schmückte ihn mit herrlichen Gewändern: / mit Beinkleidern, Leibrock und Obergewand.

9. To surround the robe he gave him pomegranates, and many gold bells all round to chime at every step, for their sound to be heard in the Temple as a reminder to the children of his people;

9. Dessen Saum verzierte er mit Glöckchen im Kreis / und mit klingenden Granatäpfeln ringsum. Sie sollten bei seinen Schritten lieblichen Klang geben, / damit er im Heiligtum zu hören war und sein Volk aufmerksam wurde.

10. and a sacred vestment of gold and aquamarine and scarlet, the work of an embroiderer; the pectoral of judgement, the urim and thummim, of plaited crimson, the work of a craftsman;

10. Auch schmückte er ihn mit den heiligen Gewändern aus Gold, / aus violettem und rotem Purpur - einer Kunstweberarbeit -, / mit der Lostasche für den Schiedsspruch, dem Efod,

11. precious stones cut like seals mounted in gold, the work of a jeweller, as a reminder with their engraved inscriptions of the number of the tribes of Israel;

11. und dem Gürtel aus Karmesin - einer Weberarbeit -, / mit den Edelsteinen, gestochen wie Siegel / und eingefasst - einer Steinschneiderarbeit -; auf ihnen standen in eingeschnittener Schrift / die Namen der Stämme Israels, / um sie (bei Gott) in Erinnerung zu bringen;

12. and a golden diadem on his turban, engraved with the seal of consecration; superb ornamentation, magnificent work, adornment to delight the eye.

12. sodann der Goldreif auf dem Kopfbund, / die Rosette mit der eingravierten Inschrift: Heilig! Eine herrliche Pracht, eine gewaltige Auszeichnung, / eine Augenweide, eine vollendete Schönheit.

13. There had never been such lovely things before him, and no one else has ever put them on, but only his own sons, and his descendants for all time.

13. Vorher hat es nichts Ähnliches gegeben / und niemals darf es ein Unbefugter tragen. Nur seinen Söhnen hat er dies anvertraut / und so halten es seine Söhne für alle Zeiten.

14. His sacrifices were to be burnt entirely, twice each day and for ever.

14. Sein Speiseopfer wird ganz verbrannt, / zweimal täglich, als regelmäßiges Opfer.

15. Moses consecrated him and anointed him with holy oil; and this was an everlasting covenant for him, and for his descendants as long as the heavens endure, that he should preside over worship, act as priest, and bless the people in the name of the Lord.

15. Mose hat ihn in sein Amt eingesetzt / und ihn mit heiligem Öl gesalbt. So wurde ihm ein ewiger Bund gewährt und auch seinen Nachkommen, / solange der Himmel steht: den Dienst zu tun, für Gott Priester zu sein / und sein Volk in seinem Namen zu segnen.

16. He chose him out of all the living to offer sacrifices to the Lord, incense and perfume as a memorial to make expiation for the people.

16. Er hat ihn erwählt aus allen Lebenden, / damit er Brandopfer und Fettstücke darbringe, den beruhigenden Duft des Gedenkopfers aufsteigen lasse / und für die Söhne Israels Sühne erwirke.

17. He entrusted him with his commandments, committed to him the statutes of the Law for him to teach Jacob his decrees and enlighten Israel on his Law.

17. Er gab ihm seine Gebote / und Vollmacht über Gesetz und Recht. So unterwies Aaron sein Volk im Gesetz / und Israels Söhne im Recht.

18. Others plotted against him, they were jealous of him in the desert, Dathan and Abiram and their men, Korah and his crew in fury and rage.

18. Als sich Unbefugte gegen ihn empörten / und in der Wüste auf ihn eifersüchtig wurden,die Leute um Datan und Abiram / sowie Korach und sein Anhang, in heftiger Wut,

19. The Lord saw it and was displeased, his raging fury made an end of them; he worked miracles on them, consuming them by his flaming fire.

19. da sah es der Herr und wurde zornig, / er vernichtete sie in seinem glühenden Zorn. Er bewirkte ein Wunder gegen sie / und vertilgte sie in den Flammen seines Feuers.

20. And he added to Aaron's glory, he gave him an inheritance; he allotted him the offerings of the first-fruits, before all else, as much bread as he could want.

20. Das Ansehen Aarons vermehrte er noch / und gab ihm sein Erbteil: Die heiligen Erstlinge gab er ihm zur Nahrung, / Die Schaubrote wurden sein Anteil /

21. Thus they eat the sacrifices of the Lord which he gave to him and his posterity.

21. die Gaben für den Herrn sollten sie essen. und die Abgaben sollten ihm und seinen Nachkommen zufallen.

22. But of the people's territory he inherits nothing, he alone of all the people has no share, 'For I myself am your share and heritage.'

22. Vom Landbesitz des Volkes aber sollte er nichts erben, / in ihrer Mitte kein Erbteil erhalten;denn der Herr ist sein Anteil / und sein Erbe inmitten der Söhne Israels.

23. Phinehas son of Eleazar is third in glory because of his zeal in the fear of the Lord, because he stood firm when the people revolted, with a staunch and courageous heart; and in this way made expiation for Israel.

23. Ferner Pinhas, der Sohn Eleasars: / Er bekam als Dritter das hohe Amt, / weil er sich einsetzte für den Gott des Alls / und für sein Volk in die Bresche trat, / als er dem Antrieb seines Herzens folgte / und für die Söhne Israels Sühne erwirkte.

24. Hence a covenant of peace was sealed with him, making him governor of both sanctuary and people, and securing to him and his descendants the high priestly dignity for ever.

24. Darum hat der Herr auch für ihn eine Bestimmung getroffen, / einen Heilsbund gestiftet: / Er sollte das Heiligtum versorgen. So sollte ihm und seinen Söhnen / das Hohepriesteramt gehören für ewige Zeiten.

25. There was also a covenant with David son of Jesse, of the tribe of Judah, a royal succession by exclusively linear descent, but the succession of Aaron passes to all his descendants.

25. Sein Bund mit David, dem Sohn Isais aus dem Stamm Juda, / bestand in der Erbnachfolge eines Herrschers von Gottes Gnaden; / ebenso gehört die Erbnachfolge Aarons Pinhas und seinen Söhnen. Nun lobt den gütigen Herrn, / der euch mit Ehre gekrönt hat.

26. May God endow your hearts with wisdom to judge his people uprightly, so that the virtues of your ancestors may never fade, and their glory may pass to all their descendants!

26. Er gebe euch Weisheit ins Herz, / sein Volk in Gerechtigkeit zu lenken, damit euer Glück nie endet / noch euer hohes Amt bis in fernste Zeiten.
