Matthieu, 25

1. Alors le royaume des cieux serasemblable à dix vierges qui, ayant pris leurs lampes, sortirent à la rencontrede l'époux.

1. the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.

2. Cinq d'entre elles étaientfolles, et cinq étaient sages.

2. Five of them were foolish and five were wise.

3. Les folles, en prenant leurs lampes,n'avaient pas pris d'huile avec elles;

4. mais les sages avaient pris del'huile dans leurs vases avec leurs lampes.

4. but the wise brought flasks of oil with their lamps.

5. Comme l'époux tardait,elles s'assoupirent toutes et s'endormirent.

5. Since the bridegroom was long delayed, they all became drowsy and fell asleep.

6. Au milieu de la nuit, un cri sefit (entendre) : " Voici l'époux ! Allez à sa rencontre ! "

7. Alors toutes ces vierges se levèrentet préparèrent leurs lampes.

7. Then all those virgins got up and trimmed their lamps.

8. Et les folles dirent aux sages: " Donnez-nous de votre huile, car nos lampes s'éteignent. "

8. The foolish ones said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.'

9. Les sages répondirent :" De crainte qu'il n'y en ait pas assez pour nous et pour vous, allez plutôt chez ceuxqui en vendent, et achetez-en pour vous. " 10 Mais, pendant qu'elles s'en allaienten acheter, l'époux arriva, et celles qui étaient prêtes entrèrentavec lui au festin des noces, et la porte fut fermée.

9. But the wise ones replied, 'No, for there may not be enough for us and you. Go instead to the merchants and buy some for yourselves.'

10. While they went off to buy it, the bridegroom came and those who were ready went into the wedding feast with him. Then the door was locked.

11. Plus tard, les autres viergesvinrent aussi, disant : " Seigneur, Seigneur, ouvrez-nous ! "

14. Car il en est comme d'un hommequi, partant pour un voyage, appela ses serviteurs et leur remit ses biens.

15. A l'un il donna cinq talents,à un autre deux, à un autre un, à chacun selon sa capacité, et il partit envoyage. Aussitôt,

16. celui qui avait reçu lescinq talents s'en alla les faire valoir, et il en gagna cinq autres.

17. De la même manière,celui qui (avait reçu) les deux, en gagna lui aussi deux autres.

18. Mais celui qui en avait reçuun s'en alla faire un trou en terre, et il y cacha l'argent de son maître.

18. But the man who received one went off and dug a hole in the ground and buried his master's money.

19. Longtemps après, le maîtrede ces serviteurs revient et leur fait rendre compte. 20 S'avançant, celui quiavait reçu les cinq talents en présenta cinq autres, en disant : " Maître, vous m'aviezremis cinq talents; voici cinq autres talents que j'ai gagnés. "

19. After a long time the master of those servants came back and settled accounts with them.

20. The one who had received five talents came forward bringing the additional five. He said, 'Master, you gave me five talents. See, I have made five more.'

21. Son maître lui dit : "Bien, serviteur bon et fidèle; en peu tu as été fidèle,je te préposerai à beaucoup;entre dans la joie de ton maître. "

21. His master said to him, 'Well done, my good and faithful servant. Since you were faithful in small matters, I will give you great responsibilities. Come, share your master's joy.'

22. S'avançant aussi, celuiqui (avait reçu) les deux talents dit : " Maître, vous m'aviez remis deux talents; voicideux autres talents que j'ai gagnés. "

23. Son maître lui dit : "Bien, serviteur bon et fidèle, en peu tu as été fidèle,je te préposerai à beaucoup;entre dans la joie de ton maître. "

24. S'avançant aussi, celuiqui avait reçu un talent dit : " Maître, j'ai connu que vous êtes un homme dur, quimoissonnez où vous n'avez pas semé, et recueillez où vous n'avez pas répandu.

24. Then the one who had received the one talent came forward and said, 'Master, I knew you were a demanding person, harvesting where you did not plant and gathering where you did not scatter;

25. J'ai eu peur, et je suis allécacher votre talent dans la terre; le voici, vous avec ce qui est à vous. "

25. so out of fear I went off and buried your talent in the ground. Here it is back.'

26. Son maître lui répondit: " Serviteur mauvais et paresseux, tu savais que je moissonne où je n'ai passemé, et que je recueille où je n'ai pas répandu;

26. His master said to him in reply, 'You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I did not plant and gather where I did not scatter?

27. il te fallait donc porter monargent aux banquiers, et, à mon retour, j'aurais repris ce qui est mien avec un intérêt.

27. Should you not then have put my money in the bank so that I could have got it back with interest on my return?

28. Otez-lui donc le talent, et donnez-leà celui qui a les dix talents.

28. Now then! Take the talent from him and give it to the one with ten.

29. Car on donnera à celuiqui a, quel qu'il soit, et il y aura (pour lui) surabondance; mais à celuiqui n'a pas, on lui ôtera même ce qu'il a.

29. For to everyone who has, more will be given and he will grow rich; but from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.

30. Et ce serviteur inutile, jetez-ledans les ténèbres extérieures : là il y aurales pleurs et le grincement de dents.

30. And throw this useless servant into the darkness outside, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.'

31. Or quand le Fils de l'homme viendradans sa gloire, et tous les anges avec lui, il s'assiéra alors sur sontrône de gloire,

31. "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit upon his glorious throne,

32. et toutes les nations serontrassemblées devant lui, et il séparera les uns d'avec les autres, comme le pasteursépare les brebis d'avec les boucs,

32. and all the nations will be assembled before him. And he will separate them one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.

33. et il mettra les brebis àsa droite et les boucs à sa gauche.

33. He will place the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.

34. Alors le Roi dira à ceuxqui seront à sa droite : " Venez, les bénis de mon Père : prenez possessiondu royaume qui vous a été préparé dèsla création du monde.

34. Then the king will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.

35. Car j'ai eu faim, et vous m'avezdonné à manger; j'ai eu soif, et vous m'avez donné à boire; j'étaisétranger, et vous m'avez recueilli;

35. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me,

36. nu, et vous m'avez vêtu;j'ai été malade, et vous m'avez visité; j'étaisen prison, et vous êtes venusà moi. "

36. naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.'

37. Alors les justes lui répondront: " Seigneur, quand vous avons-nous vu avoir faim, et vous avons-nous donnéà manger; avoir soif, et vous avons-nous donné à boire?

37. Then the righteous will answer him and say, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink?

38. Quand vous avons-nous vu étranger,et vous avons-nous recueilli; nu, et vous avons-nous vêtu?

38. When did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you?

39. Quand vous avons-nous vu maladeou en prison, et sommes-nous venus à vous? "

39. When did we see you ill or in prison, and visit you?'

40. Et le Roi leur répondra: " En vérité, je vous le dis, chaque fois que vous l'avez fait à l'un de ces plus petitsde mes frères, c'est à moi que vous l'avez fait. "

40. And the king will say to them in reply, 'Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.'

41. Alors il dira aussi àceux qui seront à sa gauche : " Allez-vous-en loin de moi, les maudits, au feu éternel,qui a été préparé pour le diable et pour sesanges.

41. Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you accursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.

42. Car j'ai eu faim, et vous nem'avez pas donné à manger; j'ai eu soif, et vous ne m'avez pas donné àboire;

42. For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink,

43. j'étais étranger,et vous ne m'avez pas recueilli; nu, et vous ne m'avez pas vêtu; malade et en prison,et vous ne m'avez pas visité."

43. a stranger and you gave me no welcome, naked and you gave me no clothing, ill and in prison, and you did not care for me.'

44. Alors eux aussi lui répondront: " Seigneur, quand vous avons-nous vu avoir faim, ou avoir soif, ou étranger,ou nu, ou malade, ou en prison, et ne vous avons-nous pas assisté? "

44. Then they will answer and say, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or ill or in prison, and not minister to your needs?'

45. Alors il leur répondra: " En vérité, je vous le dis, chaque fois que vous ne l'avez pas fait à l'un deces plus petits, c'est à moi que vous ne l'avez pas fait. "

46. Et ceux-ci s'en iront au suppliceéternel, et les justes à la vie éternelle. "

46. And these will go off to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."
