Marc, 6

1. Etant parti de là, il vint dans sa patrie, et ses disciples le suivirent.

1. He departed from there and came to his native place, accompanied by his disciples.

2. Quand le sabbat fut venu, il se mit à enseigner dans la synagogue; et beaucoup de ceux qui l'entendaient, frappés d'étonnement, disaient : " D'où cela lui vient-il? Quelle est cette science qui lui a été donnée? Et de tels miracles qui s'opèrent par ses mains?

2. When the sabbath came he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astonished. They said, "Where did this man get all this? What kind of wisdom has been given him? What mighty deeds are wrought by his hands!

3. N'est-ce pas le charpentier, le fils de Marie, le frère de Jacques, de José, de Jude et de Simon? Ses s?urs ne sont-elles pas ici, chez nous? " Et il était pour eux une pierre d'achoppement.

3. Is he not the carpenter, the son of Mary, and the brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?" And they took offense at him.

4. Jésus leur dit : " Un prophète n'est sans honneur que dans sa patrie, dans sa parenté et dans sa maison. "

4. Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor except in his native place and among his own kin and in his own house."

5. Et il ne put faire aucun miracle, si ce n'est qu'il guérit quelques malades en leur imposant les mains.

5. So he was not able to perform any mighty deed there, apart from curing a few sick people by laying his hands on them.

6. Et il était surpris de leur incrédulité. Et il parcourait les bourgs à la ronde en enseignant.

6. He was amazed at their lack of faith. He went around to the villages in the vicinity teaching.

7. Il appela près de lui les Douze, et commença à les envoyer deux à deux, et leur donna pouvoir sur les esprits impurs.

7. He summoned the Twelve and began to send them out two by two and gave them authority over unclean spirits.

8. Il leur recommanda de ne rien prendre pour la route, qu'un bâton seulement, ni pain, ni besace, ni petite monnaie pour la ceinture,

8. He instructed them to take nothing for the journey but a walking stick--no food, no sack, no money in their belts.

9. mais d'être chaussés de sandales, et : " Ne revêtez pas deux tuniques. "

9. They were, however, to wear sandals but not a second tunic.

10. Et il leur dit : " Partout où vous serez entrés dans une maison, demeurez-y jusqu'à ce que vous repartiez de là.

10. He said to them, "Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave from there.

11. Et si un endroit refuse de vous recevoir et qu'on ne vous écoute pas, sortez de là en secouant la poussière de dessous vos pieds en témoignage conter eux. "

11. Whatever place does not welcome you or listen to you, leave there and shake the dust off your feet in testimony against them."

12. Etant partis, ils prêchèrent que l'on se repentît.

12. So they went off and preached repentance.

13. Ils chassaient beaucoup de démons, et ils oignaient d'huile beaucoup de malades et les guérissaient.

13. They drove out many demons, and they anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them.

14. Et le roi Hérode entendit parler (de Jésus), car son nom était devenu célèbre, et il disait : " Jean Le Baptiste est ressuscité des morts : voilà pourquoi le pouvoir thaumaturgique agit en lui. "

14. heard about it, for his fame had become widespread, and people were saying, "John the Baptist has been raised from the dead; that is why mighty powers are at work in him."

15. D'autres disaient : " C'est Elie; " et d'autres disaient : " C'est un prophète, comme l'un des (anciens) prophètes. "

15. Others were saying, "He is Elijah"; still others, "He is a prophet like any of the prophets."

16. Ce qu'Hérode ayant entendu, il disait : " Ce Jean, que j'ai fait décapiter, il est ressuscité. "

16. But when Herod learned of it, he said, "It is John whom I beheaded. He has been raised up."

17. Car c'était lui, Hérode, qui avait envoyé arrêter Jean, et l'avait fait mettre en prison chargé de chaînes, à cause d'Hérodiade, la femme de Philippe, son frère, qu'il avait épousée.

17. Herod was the one who had John arrested and bound in prison on account of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip, whom he had married.

18. Jean en effet disait à Hérode : " Il ne t'est pas permis d'avoir la femme de ton frère. "

18. John had said to Herod, "It is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife."

19. Hérodiade lui gardait rancune et voulait le faire mourir, mais elle ne le pouvait pas,

19. Herodias harbored a grudge against him and wanted to kill him but was unable to do so.

20. car Hérode craignait Jean, le sachant homme juste et saint, et il le préservait; en l'écoutant il était dans la perplexité, mais il l'écoutait volontiers.

20. Herod feared John, knowing him to be a righteous and holy man, and kept him in custody. When he heard him speak he was very much perplexed, yet he liked to listen to him.

21. Il arriva un jour propice, quand Hérode, pour l'anniversaire de sa naissance, donna un festin à ses grands, aux tribuns et aux principaux de la Galilée.

21. She had an opportunity one day when Herod, on his birthday, gave a banquet for his courtiers, his military officers, and the leading men of Galilee.

22. La fille d'Hérodiade elle-même, étant entrée, dansa et plus à Hérode et aux convives. Et le roi dit à la jeune fille : " Demande-moi ce que tu voudras, et je te le donnerai. "

22. Herodias's own daughter came in and performed a dance that delighted Herod and his guests. The king said to the girl, "Ask of me whatever you wish and I will grant it to you."

23. Et il lui fit serment : " Quoi que ce soit que tu me demandes, je te le donnerai, fût-ce la moitié de mon royaume. "

23. He even swore (many things) to her, "I will grant you whatever you ask of me, even to half of my kingdom."

24. Elle sortit et dit à sa mère : " Que demanderai-je? " Celle-ci dit : " La tête de Jean le Baptiste. "

24. She went out and said to her mother, "What shall I ask for?" She replied, "The head of John the Baptist."

25. Rentrant aussitôt avec empressement vers le roi, elle lui fit cette demande : " Je veux que tu me donnes, à l'instant, sur un plateau, la tête de Jean le Baptiste. "

25. The girl hurried back to the king's presence and made her request, "I want you to give me at once on a platter the head of John the Baptist."

26. Le roi, très attristé, ne voulut pas, à raison des serments et des convives, la repousser.

26. The king was deeply distressed, but because of his oaths and the guests he did not wish to break his word to her.

27. Envoyant aussitôt un garde, le roi commanda d'apporter sa tête. Il s'en alla décapiter Jean dans la prison,

27. So he promptly dispatched an executioner with orders to bring back his head. He went off and beheaded him in the prison.

28. et il apporta sa tête sur un plateau; il la donna à la jeune fille, et la jeune fille la donna à sa mère.

28. He brought in the head on a platter and gave it to the girl. The girl in turn gave it to her mother.

29. Ses disciples, l'ayant appris, vinrent prendre son corps et le mirent dans un tombeau.

29. When his disciples heard about it, they came and took his body and laid it in a tomb.

30. Les apôtres se rassemblèrent auprès de Jésus et lui firent un rapport de tout ce qu'ils avaient fait et de tout ce qu'ils avaient enseigné.

30. The apostles gathered together with Jesus and reported all they had done and taught.

31. Il leur dit : " Venez, vous autres, à part, dans un lieu désert, et prenez un peu de repos. " Car nombreux étaient ceux qui venaient et s'en allaient; et ils n'avaient pas même le temps de manger.

31. He said to them, "Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while." People were coming and going in great numbers, and they had no opportunity even to eat.

32. Ils partirent donc dans la barque pour un lieu désert, à part.

32. So they went off in the boat by themselves to a deserted place.

33. On les vit s'en aller, et beaucoup ayant deviné, de toutes les villes on y accourut à pied et on arriva avant eux.

33. People saw them leaving and many came to know about it. They hastened there on foot from all the towns and arrived at the place before them.

34. En débarquant, il vit une foule nombreuse, et il en eut compassion, parce qu'ils étaient comme des brebis sans pasteur, et il se mit à les enseigner longuement.

34. When he disembarked and saw the vast crowd, his heart was moved with pity for them, for they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things.

35. Quand l'heure était déjà avancée, ses disciples s'approchèrent de lui et dirent : " Le lieu est désert et déjà l'heure est avancée;

35. By now it was already late and his disciples approached him and said, "This is a deserted place and it is already very late.

36. renvoyez-les afin qu'ils aillent dans les hameaux et les bourgs des environs s'acheter de quoi manger. "

36. Dismiss them so that they can go to the surrounding farms and villages and buy themselves something to eat."

37. Il leur répondit : " Donnez-leur vous-mêmes à manger. " Et ils lui dirent : " Irons-nous donc acheter pour deux cents deniers de pain afin de leur donner à manger? "

37. He said to them in reply, "Give them some food yourselves." But they said to him, "Are we to buy two hundred days' wages worth of food and give it to them to eat?"

38. Il leur dit : " Combien de pains avez-vous? Allez et voyez. " S'en étant instruits, ils dirent : " Cinq, et deux poissons. "

38. He asked them, "How many loaves do you have? Go and see." And when they had found out they said, "Five loaves and two fish."

39. Alors il leur commanda de les faire tous asseoir, par tablées, sur l'herbe verte;

39. So he gave orders to have them sit down in groups on the green grass.

40. et ils s'installèrent par carrés de cent et de cinquante.

40. The people took their places in rows by hundreds and by fifties.

41. Et il prit les cinq pains et les deux poissons, leva les yeux au ciel, prononça la bénédiction, rompit les pains et les donna aux disciples, pour qu'ils les leur servissent; il partagea aussi les deux poissons entre tous.

41. Then, taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he said the blessing, broke the loaves, and gave them to (his) disciples to set before the people; he also divided the two fish among them all.

42. Tous mangèrent et furent rassasiés,

42. They all ate and were satisfied.

43. et l'on emporta douze corbeilles pleines de morceaux et de ce qui restait des poissons.

43. And they picked up twelve wicker baskets full of fragments and what was left of the fish.

44. Or ceux qui avaient mangé étaient cinq mille hommes.

44. Those who ate (of the loaves) were five thousand men.

45. Aussitôt il obligea ses disciples à monter dans la barque et à passer avant lui sur l'autre rive, vers Bethsaïde, pendant que lui-même renverrait la foule.

45. while he dismissed the crowd.

46. Et après qu'il en eut pris congé, il s'en alla dans la montagne pour prier.

46. And when he had taken leave of them, he went off to the mountain to pray.

47. Le soir étant venu, la barque était au milieu de la mer, et lui seul à terre.

47. When it was evening, the boat was far out on the sea and he was alone on shore.

48. Voyant qu'ils avaient beaucoup de peine à avancer, car le vent leur était contraire, vers la quatrième veille de la nuit, il vint vers eux en marchant sur la mer; et il voulait les dépasser.

48. Then he saw that they were tossed about while rowing, for the wind was against them. About the fourth watch of the night, he came toward them walking on the sea. He meant to pass by them.

49. Mais eux, le voyant marcher sur la mer, crurent que c'était un fantôme et poussèrent des cris.

49. But when they saw him walking on the sea, they thought it was a ghost and cried out.

50. Tous en effet le virent et ils furent troublés. Aussitôt il parla avec eux et leur dit : " Prenez confiance, c'est moi, ne craignez point. "

50. They had all seen him and were terrified. But at once he spoke with them, "Take courage, it is I, do not be afraid!"

51. Et il monta auprès d'eux dans la barque, et le vent tomba. Ils étaient intérieurement au comble de la stupéfaction,

51. He got into the boat with them and the wind died down. They were (completely) astounded.

52. car ils n'avaient pas compris pour les pains, et leur c?ur était aveuglé.

52. They had not understood the incident of the loaves. On the contrary, their hearts were hardened.

53. Ayant traversé, ils abordèrent à Génésareth et accostèrent.

53. After making the crossing, they came to land at Gennesaret and tied up there.

54. Quand ils furent sortis de la barque, (des gens) l'ayant aussitôt reconnu,

54. As they were leaving the boat, people immediately recognized him.

55. parcoururent toute cette contrée, et l'on se mit à apporter les malades sur les grabats, partout où l'on apprenait qu'il était.

55. They scurried about the surrounding country and began to bring in the sick on mats to wherever they heard he was.

56. Et partout où il entrait, bourgs, ou villes, ou fermes, on mettait les malades sur les places, et on le priait de leur laisser seulement toucher la houppe de son manteau; et tous ceux qui pouvaient toucher étaient guéris.

56. Whatever villages or towns or countryside he entered, they laid the sick in the marketplaces and begged him that they might touch only the tassel on his cloak; and as many as touched it were healed.
