Mateo, 12

1. En aquel tiempo cruzaba Jesús un sábado por los sembrados. Y sus discípulos sintieron hambre y se pusieron a arrancar espigas y a comerlas.

1. At that time Jesus went on the sabbath day through the corn; and his disciples were an hungred, and began to pluck the ears of corn, and to eat.

2. Al verlo los fariseos, le dijeron: «Mira, tus discípulos hacen lo que no es lícito hacer en sábado.»

2. But when the Pharisees saw [it], they said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the sabbath day.

3. Pero él les dijo: «¿No habéis leído lo que hizo David cuando sintió hambre él y los que le acompañaban,

3. But he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did, when he was an hungred, and they that were with him;

4. cómo entró en la Casa de Dios y comieron los panes de la Presencia, que no le era lícito comer a él, ni a sus compañeros, sino sólo a los sacerdotes?

4. How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the shewbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests?

5. ¿Tampoco habéis leído en la Ley que en día de sábado los sacerdotes, en el Templo, quebrantan el sábado sin incurrir en culpa?

5. Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless?

6. Pues yo os digo que hay aquí algo mayor que el Templo.

6. But I say unto you, That in this place is [one] greater than the temple.

7. Si hubieseis comprendido lo que significa aquello de: Misericordia quiero, que no sacrificio, no condenaríais a los que no tienen culpa.

7. But if ye had known what [this] meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless.

8. Porque el Hijo del hombre es señor del sábado.»

8. For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.

9. Pasó de allí y se fue a la sinagoga de ellos.

9. And when he was departed thence, he went into their synagogue:

10. Había allí un hombre que tenía una mano seca. Y le preguntaron si era lícito curar en sábado, para poder acusarle.

10. And, behold, there was a man which had [his] hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? that they might accuse him.

11. El les dijo: «¿Quién de vosotros que tenga una sola oveja, si ésta cae en un hoyo en sábado, no la agarra y la saca?

11. And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift [it] out?

12. Pues, ¡cuánto más vale un hombre que una oveja! Por tanto, es lícito hacer bien en sábado.»

12. How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.

13. Entonces dice al hombre: «Extiende tu mano.» El la extendió, y quedó restablecida, sana como la otra.

13. Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched [it] forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other.

14. Pero los fariseos, en cuanto salieron, se confabularon contra él para ver cómo eliminarle.

14. Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against him, how they might destroy him.

15. Jesús, al saberlo, se retiró de allí. Le siguieron muchos y los curó a todos.

15. But when Jesus knew [it], he withdrew himself from thence: and great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all;

16. Y les mandó enérgicamente que no le descubrieran;

16. And charged them that they should not make him known:

17. para que se cumpliera el oráculo del profeta Isaías:

17. That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,

18. He aquí mi Siervo, a quien elegí, mi Amado, en quien mi alma se complace. Pondré mi Espíritu sobre él, y anunciará el juicio a las naciones.

18. Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles.

19. No disputará ni gritará, ni oirá nadie en las plazas su voz.

19. He shall not strive, nor cry; neither shall any man hear his voice in the streets.

20. La caña cascada no la quebrará, ni apagará la mecha humeante, hasta que lleve a la victoria el juicio:

20. A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory.

21. en su nombre pondrán las naciones su esperanza.

21. And in his name shall the Gentiles trust.

22. Entonces le fue presentado un endemoniado ciego y mudo. Y le curó, de suerte que el mudo hablaba y veía.

22. Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw.

23. Y toda la gente atónita decía: «¿No será éste el Hijo de David?»

23. And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David?

24. Mas los fariseos, al oírlo, dijeron: «Este no expulsa los demonios más que por Beelzebul, Príncipe de los demonios.»

24. But when the Pharisees heard [it], they said, This [fellow] doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.

25. El, conociendo sus pensamientos, les dijo: «Todo reino dividido contra sí mismo queda asolado, y toda ciudad o casa dividida contra sí misma no podrá subsistir.

25. And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:

26. Si Satanás expulsa a Satanás, contra sí mismo está dividido: ¿cómo, pues, va a subsistir su reino?

26. And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand?

27. Y si yo expulso los demonios por Beelzebul, ¿por quién los expulsan vuestros hijos? Por eso, ellos serán vuestros jueces.

27. And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast [them] out? therefore they shall be your judges.

28. Pero si por el Espíritu de Dios expulso yo los demonios, es que ha llegado a vosotros el Reino de Dios.

28. But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.

29. «O, ¿cómo puede uno entrar en la casa del fuerte y saquear su ajuar, si no ata primero al fuerte? Entonces podrá saquear su casa.

29. Or else how can one enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house.

30. «El que no está conmigo, está contra mí, y el que no recoge conmigo, desparrama.

30. He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.

31. «Por eso os digo: Todo pecado y blasfemia se perdonará a los hombres, pero la blasfemia contra el Espíritu no será perdonada.

31. Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy [against] the [Holy] Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.

32. Y al que diga una palabra contra el Hijo del hombre, se le perdonará; pero al que la diga contra el Espíritu Santo, no se le perdonará ni en este mundo ni en el otro.

32. And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the [world] to come.

33. «Suponed un árbol bueno, y su fruto será bueno; suponed un árbol malo, y su fruto será malo; porque por el fruto se conoce el árbol.

33. Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by [his] fruit.

34. Raza de víboras, ¿cómo podéis vosotros hablar cosas buenas siendo malos? Porque de lo que rebosa el corazón habla la boca.

34. O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.

35. El hombre bueno, del buen tesoro saca cosas buenas y el hombre malo, del tesoro malo saca cosas malas.

35. A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.

36. Os digo que de toda palabra ociosa que hablen los hombres darán cuenta en el día del Juicio.

36. But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

37. Porque por tus palabras serás declarado justo y por tus palabras serás condenado.»

37. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

38. Entonces le interpelaron algunos escribas y fariseos: «Maestro, queremos ver una señal hecha por ti.»

38. Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee.

39. Mas él les respondió: «¡Generación malvada y adúltera! Una señal pide, y no se le dará otra señal que la señal del profeta Jonás.

39. But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:

40. Porque de la misma manera que Jonás estuvo en el vientre del cetáceo tres días y tres noches, así también el Hijo del hombre estará en el seno de la tierra tres días y tres noches.

40. For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

41. Los ninivitas se levantarán en el Juicio con esta generación y la condenarán; porque ellos se convirtieron por la predicación de Jonás, y aquí hay algo más que Jonás.

41. The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas [is] here.

42. La reina del Mediodía se levantará en el Juicio con esta generación y la condenará; porque ella vino de los confines de la tierra a oír la sabiduría de Salomón, y aquí hay algo más que Salomón.

42. The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon [is] here.

43. «Cuando el espíritu inmundo sale del hombre, anda vagando por lugares áridos en busca de reposo, pero no lo encuentra.

43. When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.

44. Entonces dice: "Me volveré a mi casa, de donde salí." Y al llegar la encuentra desocupada, barrida y en orden.

44. Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth [it] empty, swept, and garnished.

45. Entonces va y toma consigo otros siete espíritus peores que él; entran y se instalan allí, y el final de aquel hombre viene a ser peor que el principio. Así le sucederá también a esta generación malvada.»

45. Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last [state] of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.

46. Todavía estaba hablando a la muchedumbre, cuando su madre y sus hermanos se presentaron fuera y trataban de hablar con él.

46. While he yet talked to the people, behold, [his] mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him.

47. Alguien le dijo: «¡Oye! ahí fuera están tu madre y tus hermanos que desean hablarte.»

47. Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee.

48. Pero él respondió al que se lo decía: «¿Quién es mi madre y quiénes son mis hermanos?»

48. But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?

49. Y, extendiendo su mano hacia sus discípulos, dijo: «Estos son mi madre y mis hermanos.

49. And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!

50. Pues todo el que cumpla la voluntad de mi Padre celestial, ése es mi hermano, mi hermana y mi madre.»

50. For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.
