Acts, 6

5. And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:

Acts of Apostles 6 describes the choice and order of the seven deacons, which would be responsible for serving the tables of Greek believers and thus solving a problem of food distribution in the church. The following verses are related to the topics addressed in this chapter:

Philippians 1:1 - "Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, to all the saints in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi, with bishops and deacons." This verse points out that the early church had an established order, with deacons among its leaders.

1 Timothy 3:8 - "In the same way, deacons are worthy, not a fold, not given to much wine, not coveted of dishonest profit." Here Paul gives specific instructions on the qualities that deacons should have.
