1 Maccabees, 3

17. But when they saw the army coming to meet them, they said to Judas: How shall we, being few, be able to fight against so great a multitude and so strong, and we are ready to faint with fasting today?

1 Maccabees 3 narrates Judas Macabeu's first victories against the Greek forces, who tried to impose their culture and religion on the Jewish people. The chapter describes the Judas Army organization and its battle strategies. Next are five verses related to the topics addressed in 1 Maccabees 3:

Deuteronomy 20:4: "For the Lord, your God, will accompany you and fight for you against your enemies to give you victory." This verse talks about divine aid in the struggle against enemies and shows the importance of faith in God in times of war.

Joshua 1:9: "Did I not have ordered you? Be strong and brave! Do not be terrified or discouraged, for the Lord, your God, will be with you where you walk." These words of God to Joshua show the importance of courage and trust in God in the struggle against powerful enemies.

2 Chronicles 20:15: "Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but of God." This passage shows that God is the true commander in times of war and that victory belongs to him.

Proverbs 21:31: "The horse is prepared for battle day, but victory comes from the Lord." This passage shows the importance of preparation for war, but also that victory depends on divine aid.

Ephesians 6:11: "They see the whole armor of God so they can be firm against the devil's pitfalls." This passage talks about the importance of divine protection in spiritual battle and shows that the struggle against the forces of evil requires spiritual armor.
