Chapter 52 of Jeremiah presents a detailed account of the fall of Jerusalem and the deportation of the inhabitants of Judah to Babylon by King Nebuchadnezzar. The chapter describes how the city was besieged and won by the Babylonians, with the destruction of the temple and the royal palace. 2 Kings 25:9: "The Lord's house, the royal palace, and all the houses of Jerusalem, burned down; and all the important houses he completely destroyed them." 2 Kings 25:11: "Nebuzaradan, commander of the guard, took captive the rest of the people who had stayed in the city, the deserters who had passed to the side of the king of Babylon and the rest of the crowd."
