Ruth, 4

7. Yet it was the custom between kinsmen in this former time in Israel, that if at anytime one yielded his right to another, so as to confirm his permission, the man took off his shoe and gave it to his neighbor. This was a testimony of concession in Israel.

Leviticus 25:25: "If your relative impoverishes and sell some part of your property, your nearest rescuer will come and buy what the relative sold." Matthew 1:5-6: "Salmon generated Boaz, whose mother was Rahab, Boaz generated obed, whose mother was Ruth, obeded generated Jesse." This verse shows the importance of Ruth's story in the genealogy of Jesus Christ, highlighting the relevance of Ruth's story to the Judeo-Christian tradition.
