Jeremiah, 35

17. Now, therefore, says the LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel: I will bring upon Judah and all the citizens of Jerusalem every evil that I threatened; because when I spoke they did not obey, when I called they did not answer.

Matthew 7:21: "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the will of my father who is in heaven." The recabilities were faithful to the will of their ancestor, showing that obedience is more important than simply saying the right words.

Acts 5:29: "Peter and the other apostles answered, 'It is necessary to obey God rather than men!" The recabilities chose to obey God and the traditions of their family, even if it meant disobeying the king of Judah.
