1 Maccabees, 16

8. And they sounded the trumpets, and Cendebeus and his army were put to flight, and many of them were wounded and fell; the rest fled into the stronghold.

Proverbs 3:3-4-"Never let mercy and faithfulness abandon you; attack them around your neck, write them on the board of your heart. And you will find favor and good understanding before God and men." This verse speaks of the importance of mercy and faithfulness. This can be applied to Simon, who showed mercy and fidelity to his people by fighting for his freedom and rebuilding the temple.
