Actes des Apôtres, 13

1. Il y avait dans l'Eglise d'Antioche des prophètes et des docteurs : Barnabé, Siméon appelé Niger, Lucius le Cyrénéen, Manahen frère de lait d'Hérode le tétrarque, et Saul.

1. Now there were in the church at Antioch prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Symeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen who was a close friend of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.

2. Comme ils vaquaient au service du Seigneur et qu'ils jeûnaient, l'Esprit-Saint dit : " Mettez-moi à part Barnabé et Saul pour l'?uvre à laquelle je les ai appelés. "

2. While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the holy Spirit said, "Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them."

3. Alors, après avoir jeûné et prié, ils leur imposèrent les mains et les congédièrent.

3. Then, completing their fasting and prayer, they laid hands on them and sent them off.

4. Eux donc, envoyés par le Saint-Esprit, descendirent à Séleucie, d'où ils firent voile vers Chypre.

4. So they, sent forth by the holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia and from there sailed to Cyprus.

5. Arrivés à Salamine, ils annoncèrent la parole de Dieu dans les synagogues des Juifs. Ils avaient aussi Jean (comme) auxiliaire.

5. When they arrived in Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the Jewish synagogues. They had John also as their assistant.

6. Ayant traversé toute l'île jusqu'à Paphos, ils trouvèrent un individu, magicien, faux prophète juif, nommé Barjésus,

6. When they had traveled through the whole island as far as Paphos, they met a magician named Bar-Jesus who was a Jewish false prophet.

7. qui était auprès du proconsul Sergius Paulus, homme avisé. Celui-ci, ayant fait appeler Barnabé et Saul, cherchait à entendre la parole de Dieu.

7. He was with the proconsul Sergius Paulus, a man of intelligence, who had summoned Barnabas and Saul and wanted to hear the word of God.

8. Mais Elymas, le magicien, - car ainsi se traduit son nom -, leur faisait opposition, cherchant à détourner de la foi le proconsul.

8. But Elymas the magician (for that is what his name means) opposed them in an attempt to turn the proconsul away from the faith.

9. Alors Saul, - qui est aussi Paul, - rempli d'Esprit-Saint, fixa son regard sur lui

9. But Saul, also known as Paul, filled with the holy Spirit, looked intently at him

10. et dit : " Homme plein de toute fraude et de toute malice, fils du diable, ennemi de toute justice, ne cesseras-tu pas de pervertir les voies droite du Seigneur?

10. and said, "You son of the devil, you enemy of all that is right, full of every sort of deceit and fraud. Will you not stop twisting the straight paths of (the) Lord?

11. Et maintenant voici que la main de Dieu est sur toi et tu seras aveugle, sans voir le soleil pour un temps. " A l'instant l'obscurité et les ténèbres tombèrent sur lui, et, se tournant de tous côtés, il cherchait qui le mènerait par la main.

11. Even now the hand of the Lord is upon you. You will be blind, and unable to see the sun for a time." Immediately a dark mist fell upon him, and he went about seeking people to lead him by the hand.

12. Alors le proconsul, ayant vu ce qui était arrivé, crut, vivement frappé de la doctrine du Seigneur.

12. When the proconsul saw what had happened, he came to believe, for he was astonished by the teaching about the Lord.

13. De Paphos, où ils s'embarquèrent, Paul et ses compagnons, se rendirent à Pergé de Pamphylie. Mais Jean se sépara d'eux et s'en retourna à Jérusalem.

13. From Paphos, Paul and his companions set sail and arrived at Perga in Pamphylia. But John left them and returned to Jerusalem.

14. Pour eux, poussant au delà de Pergé, ils arrivèrent à Antioche de Pisidie, et étant entrés dans la synagogue le jour du sabbat, ils s'assirent.

14. They continued on from Perga and reached Antioch in Pisidia. On the sabbath they entered (into) the synagogue and took their seats.

15. Or, après la lecture de la Loi et des Prophètes, les chefs de synagogue leur envoyèrent dire : " Frères, si vous avez quelque parole d'exhortation pour le peuple, parlez. "

15. After the reading of the law and the prophets, the synagogue officials sent word to them, "My brothers, if one of you has a word of exhortation for the people, please speak."

16. Paul se leva, fit signe de la main et dit : " Israélites et vous qui craignez Dieu, écoutez.

16. So Paul got up, motioned with his hand, and said, "Fellow Israelites and you others who are God-fearing, listen.

17. Le Dieu de ce peuple d'Israël a choisi nos pères, et il a exalté le peuple pendant le séjour au pays d'Egypte, et il les a en tirés par la puissance de son bras,

17. The God of this people Israel chose our ancestors and exalted the people during their sojourn in the land of Egypt. With uplifted arm he led them out of it

18. et durant quarante ans environ il a supporté leur caractère dans le désert.

18. and for about forty years he put up with them in the desert.

19. Puis, ayant détruit sept nations au pays de Canaan, il leur a donné en héritage le pays de celles-ci

19. When he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, he gave them their land as an inheritance

20. durant quatre cent cinquante ans environ. Et après cela, il (leur) donna des juges jusqu'au prophète Samuel.

20. at the end of about four hundred and fifty years. After these things he provided judges up to Samuel (the) prophet.

21. Ensuite ils demandèrent un roi, et Dieu leur donna, pendant quarante ans, Saül, fils de Cis, de la tribu de Benjamin.

21. Then they asked for a king. God gave them Saul, son of Kish, a man from the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years.

22. Puis, l'ayant rejeté, il leur suscita pour roi David, auquel il a rendu témoignage en disant : J'ai trouvé David, le (fils) de Jessé, homme selon mon c?ur, qui fera toutes mes volontés.

22. Then he removed him and raised up David as their king; of him he testified, 'I have found David, son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will carry out my every wish.'

23. C'est de sa postérité que Dieu, selon sa promesse, a amené pour Israël un sauveur, Jésus.

23. From this man's descendants God, according to his promise, has brought to Israel a savior, Jesus.

24. Avant sa venue, Jean avait prêché un baptême de pénitence à tout le peuple d'Israël;

24. John heralded his coming by proclaiming a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel;

25. et comme Jean arrivait au terme de sa course, il disait : " Je ne suis pas ce que vous pensez que je suis; mais voici qu'après moi vient celui dont je ne suis pas digne de délier la sandale de (ses) pieds. "

25. and as John was completing his course, he would say, 'What do you suppose that I am? I am not he. Behold, one is coming after me; I am not worthy to unfasten the sandals of his feet.'

26. Frères, fils de la race d'Abraham et ceux d'entre vous qui craignent Dieu, c'est à nous que cette parole de salut a été envoyée.

26. "My brothers, children of the family of Abraham, and those others among you who are God-fearing, to us this word of salvation has been sent.

27. Car les habitants de Jérusalem et leurs chefs, ayant méconnu (Jésus) ainsi que les paroles des prophètes qui se lisent chaque sabbat, ont accompli (celles-ci) en le condamnant;

27. The inhabitants of Jerusalem and their leaders failed to recognize him, and by condemning him they fulfilled the oracles of the prophets that are read sabbath after sabbath.

28. et n'ayant trouvé aucune cause de mort, ils ont demandé à Pilate de la faire périr;

28. For even though they found no grounds for a death sentence, they asked Pilate to have him put to death,

29. et quand ils eurent accompli tout ce qui est écrit de lui, ils le descendirent du bois et le déposèrent dans un sépulcre.

29. and when they had accomplished all that was written about him, they took him down from the tree and placed him in a tomb.

30. Mais Dieu l'a ressuscité d'entre les morts;

30. But God raised him from the dead,

31. et pendant bon nombre de jours il est apparu à ceux qui étaient montés avec lui de la Galilée à Jérusalem, et qui maintenant sont ses témoins auprès du peuple.

31. and for many days he appeared to those who had come up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem. These are (now) his witnesses before the people.

32. Nous aussi, nous vous annonçons que la promesse faite à (nos) près,

32. We ourselves are proclaiming this good news to you that what God promised our ancestors

33. Dieu l'a accomplie pour nous, leurs enfants, en ressuscitant Jésus, selon ce qui est écrit dans le psaume deuxième : Tu es mon Fils, je t'ai engendré aujourd'hui.

33. he has brought to fulfillment for us, (their) children, by raising up Jesus, as it is written in the second psalm, 'You are my son; this day I have begotten you.'

34. Or, qu'il l'ait ressuscité d'entre les morts de sorte qu'il ne dût plus retourner à la décomposition, c'est ce qu'il a dit ainsi : Je vous donnerai les choses saintes de David, les vraies.

34. And that he raised him from the dead never to return to corruption he declared in this way, 'I shall give you the benefits assured to David.'

35. C'est pourquoi il dit encore ailleurs : Tu ne permettras pas que ton Saint voie la décomposition.

35. That is why he also says in another psalm, 'You will not suffer your holy one to see corruption.'

36. Car David, après avoir, pendant qu'il vivait, servi la volonté de Dieu, est mort, et il a été réuni à ses pères, et il a vu la décomposition.

36. Now David, after he had served the will of God in his lifetime, fell asleep, was gathered to his ancestors, and did see corruption.

37. Mais celui que Dieu a ressuscité n'a pas vu la décomposition.

37. But the one whom God raised up did not see corruption.

38. Sachez-le donc, frères : c'est par lui que la rémission des péchés vous est annoncée, et de tout ce dont vous n'avez pu être justifiés par la loi de Moïse,

38. You must know, my brothers, that through him forgiveness of sins is being proclaimed to you, (and) in regard to everything from which you could not be justified under the law of Moses,

39. quiconque croit en est justifié par lui.

39. in him every believer is justified.

40. Prenez donc garde qu'il ne vous arrive ce qui est dit dans les Prophètes :

40. Be careful, then, that what was said in the prophets not come about:

41. Voyez, contempteurs, soyez étonnés et disparaissez, parce que je vais faire en vos jours une ?uvre, une ?uvre que vous ne croirez pas si on vous la raconte. "

41. 'Look on, you scoffers, be amazed and disappear. For I am doing a work in your days, a work that you will never believe even if someone tells you.'"

42. Comme ils sortaient, on les priait de dire les mêmes choses le sabbat suivant.

42. As they were leaving, they invited them to speak on these subjects the following sabbath.

43. A l'issue de l'assemblée, beaucoup de Juifs et de prosélytes adorateurs suivirent Paul et Barnabé, qui, s'entretenant avec eux, les exhortaient à persévérer dans la grâce de Dieu.

43. After the congregation had dispersed, many Jews and worshipers who were converts to Judaism followed Paul and Barnabas, who spoke to them and urged them to remain faithful to the grace of God.

44. Le sabbat suivant, presque toute la ville se rassembla pour entendre la parole de Dieu.

44. On the following sabbath almost the whole city gathered to hear the word of the Lord.

45. Mais les Juifs, voyant la foule, furent remplis de jalousie, et, en blasphémant, ils contredisaient ce que disait Paul.

45. When the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy and with violent abuse contradicted what Paul said.

46. Pleins d'assurance, Paul et Barnabé dirent : " C'est à vous qu'il fallait que la parole de Dieu fût annoncée d'abord. Puisque vous la repoussez et que vous ne vous jugez pas dignes vous-mêmes de la vie éternelle, voici que nous nous tournons vers les Gentils.

46. Both Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly and said, "It was necessary that the word of God be spoken to you first, but since you reject it and condemn yourselves as unworthy of eternal life, we now turn to the Gentiles.

47. Car le Seigneur nous l'a ainsi ordonné : Je t'ai établi pour (être la) lumière des nations, afin que tu sois pour le salut jusqu'aux extrémités de la terre. "

47. For so the Lord has commanded us, 'I have made you a light to the Gentiles, that you may be an instrument of salvation to the ends of the earth.'"

48. En entendant cela, les Gentils se réjouissaient et ils glorifiaient la parole du Seigneur; et tous ceux-là crurent qui étaient destinés à la vie éternelle.

48. The Gentiles were delighted when they heard this and glorified the word of the Lord. All who were destined for eternal life came to believe,

49. Et la parole du Seigneur se répandait par toute la contrée.

49. and the word of the Lord continued to spread through the whole region.

50. Mais les Juifs excitèrent les femmes adoratrices de rang élevé et les principaux de la ville; ils poussèrent à la persécution contre Paul et Barnabé, et ils les chassèrent de leur territoire.

50. The Jews, however, incited the women of prominence who were worshipers and the leading men of the city, stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them from their territory.

51. Ceux-ci, ayant secoué contre eux la poussière de (leurs) pieds, allèrent à Iconium.

51. So they shook the dust from their feet in protest against them and went to Iconium.

52. Quant aux disciples, ils étaient remplis de joie et d'Esprit-Saint.

52. The disciples were filled with joy and the holy Spirit.
