Neemia, 7

1. Quando le mura furono completate e io ebbi restaurate le porte, i portinai, i cantori e i leviti furono stabiliti nei loro uffici.

1. Now when the wall had been built and I had set up the doors, and the gatekeepers, the singers, and the Levites had been appointed,

2. Posi al comando di Gerusalemme mio fratello Canàni e Anania al governo della cittadella, perché egli era un uomo fedele e timorato di Dio più di molti altri.

2. I gave my brother Hana'ni and Hanani'ah the governor of the castle charge over Jerusalem, for he was a more faithful and God-fearing man than many.

3. Dissi loro: "Non si aprano le porte di Gerusalemme finché il sole non scotti; e appena il calore si smorza, i battenti vengano chiusi e sbarrati. Si stabiliscano posti di guardia per gli abitanti di Gerusalemme: ciascuno al suo posto, ciascuno di fronte alla propria casa".

3. And I said to them, "Let not the gates of Jerusalem be opened until the sun is hot; and while they are still standing guard let them shut and bar the doors. Appoint guards from among the inhabitants of Jerusalem, each to his station and each opposite his own house."

4. La città era spaziosa e grande, ma dentro la gente era poca e non si fabbricavano case.

4. The city was wide and large, but the people within it were few and no houses had been built.

5. Il mio Dio mi suggerì di radunare i notabili, i magistrati e il popolo allo scopo di farne il censimento. Trovai il registro genealogico di coloro che erano tornati dall'esilio per primi. In esso trovai scritto:

5. Then God put it into my mind to assemble the nobles and the officials and the people to be enrolled by genealogy. And I found the book of the genealogy of those who came up at the first, and I found written in it:

6. "Questi sono gli abitanti della provincia che tornarono dall'esilio, coloro che Nabucodònosor, re di Babilonia, aveva esiliati e che erano tornati a Gerusalemme e in Giuda, ciascuno alla sua città.

6. These were the people of the province who came up out of the captivity of those exiles whom Nebuchadnez'zar the king of Babylon had carried into exile; they returned to Jerusalem and Judah, each to his town.

7. Vennero con Zorobabele, Giosuè, Neemia, Azaria, Raamia, Nahamani, Mardocheo, Bilsan, Mispèret, Bigvai, Necum, Baana. Numero degli uomini del popolo d'Israele:

60. All the temple servants and the sons of Solomon's servants were three hundred and ninety-two.

63. Tra i sacerdoti: figli di Cobaia, figli di Akkos, figli di Barzillai, il quale aveva sposato una delle figlie di Barzillai il galaadita e fu chiamato con il loro nome.

63. Also, of the priests: the sons of Hobai'ah, the sons of Hakkoz, the sons of Barzil'lai (who had taken a wife of the daughters of Barzil'lai the Gileadite and was called by their name).

70. Alcuni dei capifamiglia offrirono doni per la fabbrica. Il governatore diede al tesoro mille dracme d'oro, cinquanta coppe, cinquecentotrenta tuniche sacerdotali.

70. Now some of the heads of fathers' houses gave to the work. The governor gave to the treasury a thousand darics of gold, fifty basins, five hundred and thirty priests' garments.

71. Alcuni capifamiglia donarono al tesoro per la costruzione ventimila dracme d'oro e duemiladuecento mine d'argento.

71. And some of the heads of fathers' houses gave into the treasury of the work twenty thousand darics of gold and two thousand two hundred minas of silver.

72. Il resto del popolo offrì ventimila dracme d'oro, duemila mine d'argento e sessantasette tuniche sacerdotali.

72. And what the rest of the people gave was twenty thousand darics of gold, two thousand minas of silver, and sixty-seven priests' garments.

73. I sacerdoti, i leviti, i portinai, i cantori, una parte del popolo, gli oblati e tutti gl'Israeliti si stabilirono nelle loro città".

73. So the priests, the Levites, the gatekeepers, the singers, some of the people, the temple servants, and all Israel, lived in their towns. And when the seventh month had come, the children of Israel were in their towns.
