Job, 39

1. Knowest thou the time when the wild goats of the rock bring forth? [or] canst thou mark when the hinds do calve?

1. "Sinäkö ajat saaliin naarasleijonalle ja tyydytät nuorten leijonain nälän,

2. Canst thou number the months [that] they fulfil? or knowest thou the time when they bring forth?

2. kun ne kyyristyvät luolissansa ja ovat väijyksissä tiheikössä?

3. They bow themselves, they bring forth their young ones, they cast out their sorrows.

3. Kuka hankkii ravinnon kaarneelle, kun sen poikaset huutavat Jumalan puoleen ja lentelevät sinne tänne ruokaa vailla?

4. Their young ones are in good liking, they grow up with corn; they go forth, and return not unto them.

4. Tiedätkö sinä vuorikauristen poikimisajat, valvotko peurojen synnytyskipuja?

5. Who hath sent out the wild ass free? or who hath loosed the bands of the wild ass?

5. Lasketko, milloin niiden kuukaudet täyttyvät, ja tiedätkö ajan, milloin ne poikivat?

6. Whose house I have made the wilderness, and the barren land his dwellings.

6. Ne painautuvat maahan, saavat ilmoille sikiönsä ja vapautuvat synnytystuskistaan.

7. He scorneth the multitude of the city, neither regardeth he the crying of the driver.

7. Niiden vasikat vahvistuvat, kasvavat kedolla; ne lähtevät tiehensä eivätkä enää palaja.

8. The range of the mountains [is] his pasture, and he searcheth after every green thing.

8. Kuka on laskenut villiaasin vapaaksi, kuka irroittanut metsäaasin siteet,

9. Will the unicorn be willing to serve thee, or abide by thy crib?

9. sen, jolle minä annoin aavikon asunnoksi ja suola-aron asuinsijaksi?

10. Canst thou bind the unicorn with his band in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after thee?

10. Se nauraa kaupungin kohinalle, ajajan huutoa se ei kuule;

11. Wilt thou trust him, because his strength [is] great? or wilt thou leave thy labour to him?

11. se tähystelee vuorilta laiduntansa ja etsii kaikkea vihantaa.

12. Wilt thou believe him, that he will bring home thy seed, and gather [it into] thy barn?

12. Taipuuko villihärkä sinua palvelemaan, ja yöpyykö se sinun seimesi ääreen?

13. [Gavest thou] the goodly wings unto the peacocks? or wings and feathers unto the ostrich?

13. Voitko ohjaksilla pakottaa villihärän vaolle, tahi äestääkö se laaksonpohjia sinua seuraten?

14. Which leaveth her eggs in the earth, and warmeth them in dust,

14. Voitko siihen luottaa, siksi että sen voima on suuri, voitko jättää sen haltuun työsi hedelmät?

15. And forgetteth that the foot may crush them, or that the wild beast may break them.

15. Voitko uskoa, että se palajaa ja kokoaa viljasi sinun puimatantereellesi?

16. She is hardened against her young ones, as though [they were] not hers: her labour is in vain without fear;

16. Kamelikurjen siipi lepattaa iloisesti, mutta asuuko sen sulissa ja höyhenissä haikaran hellyys?

17. Because God hath deprived her of wisdom, neither hath he imparted to her understanding.

17. Se jättää munansa maahan, hiekalle helteen haudottaviksi.

18. What time she lifteth up herself on high, she scorneth the horse and his rider.

18. Ei se ajattele, että jalka voi ne särkeä ja metsän eläimet polkea ne rikki.

19. Hast thou given the horse strength? hast thou clothed his neck with thunder?

19. Se on tyly poikasilleen, niinkuin ne eivät olisikaan sen omia; hukkaan menee sen vaiva, mutta ei se sitä pelkää.

20. Canst thou make him afraid as a grasshopper? the glory of his nostrils [is] terrible.

20. Sillä Jumala on jättänyt sen viisautta vaille ja tehnyt sen ymmärryksestä osattomaksi.

21. He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in [his] strength: he goeth on to meet the armed men.

21. Kun se kiitää ilmaa piesten, nauraa se hevoselle ja ratsumiehelle.

22. He mocketh at fear, and is not affrighted; neither turneth he back from the sword.

22. Sinäkö annat hevoselle voiman, puetat sen kaulan liehuvalla harjalla?

23. The quiver rattleth against him, the glittering spear and the shield.

23. Sinäkö panet sen hyppimään kuin heinäsirkan? Sen uljas korskunta on peljättävä.

24. He swalloweth the ground with fierceness and rage: neither believeth he that [it is] the sound of the trumpet.

24. Se kuopii lakeutta ja iloitsee, lähtee voimalla asevarustuksia vastaan.

25. He saith among the trumpets, Ha, ha; and he smelleth the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.

25. Se nauraa pelolle, ei säiky eikä väisty miekan edestä.

26. Doth the hawk fly by thy wisdom, [and] stretch her wings toward the south?

26. Sen yllä kalisee viini, välkähtää keihäs ja peitsi.

27. Doth the eagle mount up at thy command, and make her nest on high?

27. Käy jyrinä ja jytinä, kun se laukaten taivalta ahmii; ei mikään sitä pidätä sotatorven pauhatessa.

28. She dwelleth and abideth on the rock, upon the crag of the rock, and the strong place.

28. Milloin ikinä sotatorvi soi, hirnuu se: iihaha! Jo kaukaa se vainuaa taistelun, päälliköiden jylisevän äänen ja sotahuudon.

29. From thence she seeketh the prey, [and] her eyes behold afar off.

29. Sinunko ymmärryksesi voimasta jalohaukka kohoaa korkealle, levittää siipensä kohti etelää?

30. Her young ones also suck up blood: and where the slain [are], there [is] she.

30. Tahi sinunko käskystäsi kotka lentää ylhäälle ja tekee pesänsä korkeuteen?

31. Kalliolla se asuu ja yöpyy, kallion kärjellä, vuorilinnassaan.

32.

32. Sieltä se tähystelee saalista; kauas katsovat sen silmät.

33.

33. Sen poikaset särpivät verta, ja missä on kaatuneita, siellä on sekin."

34.

34. Niin Herra vastasi Jobille ja sanoi:

35.

35. "Tahtooko vikoilija riidellä Kaikkivaltiasta vastaan? Jumalan syyttäjä vastatkoon tähän!"

36.

36. Silloin Job vastasi Herralle ja sanoi:

37.

37. "Katso, minä olen siihen liian halpa; mitäpä sinulle vastaisin? Panen käteni suulleni;

38.

38. kerran minä olen puhunut, enkä enää mitään virka, kahdesti, enkä enää sitä tee."
