Jeremiah, 35

18. And Jeremias said to the house of the Rechabites: Thus saith the Lord of hosts the Cod of Israel: Because you have obeyed the commandment of Jonadab your father, and have kept all his precepts, and have done all that he commanded you:

Jeremiah 35 narrates the story of the Recabitas, a family who had committed to following the commandments of his Jonadab ancestor. God uses the faithfulness of the recabilities as an example for the people of Judah, who had moved away from him. The verses related to the themes of this chapter are:

Acts 5:29: "Peter and the other apostles answered, 'It is necessary to obey God rather than men!" The recabilities chose to obey God and the traditions of their family, even if it meant disobeying the king of Judah.
