Mark, 15

1. And as soon as it was morning the chief priests, with the elders and scribes, and the whole council held a consultation; and they bound Jesus and led him away and delivered him to Pilate.

St. Mark 15 describes the arrest, judgment and crucifixion of Jesus. The chapter is rich in detail and emotion, and reveals the injustice that Jesus suffered in the hands of the religious and political leaders of his time. Isaiah 53:5: "But he was wounded by our transgressions, and ground for our iniquities; the punishment that brings us peace was upon him, and by his footsteps we were healed." Hebrews 12:2: "Looking at Jesus, author and consummator of faith, who for the sake of him endured the cross, despising the affront, and settled on the right hand of the throne of God." This verse encourages us to follow the example of Jesus, who endured the cross and overcame temptation so that we may have eternal life with Him in heaven.
