Lucas, 20

1. Y sucedió que un día enseñaba al pueblo en el Templo y anunciaba la Buena Nueva; se acercaron los sumos sacerdotes y los escribas junto con los ancianos,

1. And it came to pass, [that] on one of those days, as he taught the people in the temple, and preached the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes came upon [him] with the elders,

2. y le preguntaron: «Dinos: ¿Con qué autoridad haces esto, o quién es el que te ha dado tal autoridad?»

2. And spake unto him, saying, Tell us, by what authority doest thou these things? or who is he that gave thee this authority?

3. El les respondió: «También yo os voy a preguntar una cosa. Decidme:

3. And he answered and said unto them, I will also ask you one thing; and answer me:

4. El bautismo de Juan, ¿era del cielo o de los hombres?»

4. The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men?

5. Ellos discurrían entre sí: «Si decimos: "Del cielo", dirá: "¿Por qué no le creísteis?"

5. And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then believed ye him not?

6. Pero si decimos: "De los hombres", todo el pueblo nos apedreará, pues están convencidos de que Juan era un profeta.»

6. But and if we say, Of men; all the people will stone us: for they be persuaded that John was a prophet.

7. Respondieron, pues, que no sabían de dónde era.

7. And they answered, that they could not tell whence [it was].

8. Jesús entonces les dijo: «Tampoco yo os digo con qué autoridad hago esto.»

8. And Jesus said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.

9. Se puso a decir al pueblo esta parábola: «Un hombre plantó una viña y la arrendó a unos labradores, y se ausentó por mucho tiempo.

9. Then began he to speak to the people this parable; A certain man planted a vineyard, and let it forth to husbandmen, and went into a far country for a long time.

10. «A su debido tiempo, envió un siervo a los labradores, para que le diesen parte del fruto de la viña. Pero los labradores, después de golpearle, le despacharon con las manos vacías.

10. And at the season he sent a servant to the husbandmen, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard: but the husbandmen beat him, and sent [him] away empty.

11. Volvió a enviar otro siervo, pero ellos, después de golpearle e insultarle, le despacharon con las manos vacías.

11. And again he sent another servant: and they beat him also, and entreated [him] shamefully, and sent [him] away empty.

12. Tornó a enviar un tercero, pero ellos, después de herirle, le echaron.

12. And again he sent a third: and they wounded him also, and cast [him] out.

13. Dijo, pues, el dueño de la viña: "¿Qué haré? Voy a enviar a mi hijo querido; tal vez le respeten."

13. Then said the lord of the vineyard, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son: it may be they will reverence [him] when they see him.

14. Pero los labradores, al verle, se dijeron entre sí: "Este es el heredero; matémosle, para que la herencia sea nuestra."

14. But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir: come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.

15. Y, echándole fuera de la viña, le mataron. «¿Qué hará, pues, con ellos el dueño de la viña?

15. So they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed [him]. What therefore shall the lord of the vineyard do unto them?

16. Vendrá y dará muerte a estos labradores, y entregará la viña a otros.» Al oír esto, dijeron: «De ninguna manera.»

16. He shall come and destroy these husbandmen, and shall give the vineyard to others. And when they heard [it], they said, God forbid.

17. Pero él clavando en ellos la mirada, dijo: «Pues, ¿qué es lo que está escrito: La piedra que los constructores desecharon en piedra angular se ha convertido?

17. And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner?

18. Todo el que caiga sobre esta piedra, se destrozará, y a aquel sobre quien ella caiga, le aplastará.»

18. Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.

19. Los escribas y los sumos sacerdotes trataron de echarle mano en aquel mismo momento - pero tuvieron miedo al pueblo - porque habían comprendido que aquella parábola la había dicho por ellos.

19. And the chief priests and the scribes the same hour sought to lay hands on him; and they feared the people: for they perceived that he had spoken this parable against them.

20. Quedándose ellos al acecho, le enviaron unos espías, que fingieran ser justos, para sorprenderle en alguna palabra y poderle entregar al poder y autoridad del procurador.

20. And they watched [him], and sent forth spies, which should feign themselves just men, that they might take hold of his words, that so they might deliver him unto the power and authority of the governor.

21. Y le preguntaron: «Maestro, sabemos que hablas y enseñas con rectitud, y que no tienes en cuenta la condición de las personas, sino que enseñas con franqueza el camino de Dios:

21. And they asked him, saying, Master, we know that thou sayest and teachest rightly, neither acceptest thou the person [of any], but teachest the way of God truly:

22. ¿Nos es lícito pagar tributo al César o no?»

22. Is it lawful for us to give tribute unto Caesar, or no?

23. Pero él, habiendo conocido su astucia, les dijo:

23. But he perceived their craftiness, and said unto them, Why tempt ye me?

24. «Mostradme un denario. ¿De quién lleva la imagen y la inscripción?» Ellos dijeron: «Del César.»

24. Shew me a penny. Whose image and superscription hath it? They answered and said, Caesar's.

25. El les dijo: «Pues bien, lo del César devolvédselo al César, y lo de Dios a Dios.»

25. And he said unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which be Caesar's, and unto God the things which be God's.

26. No pudieron sorprenderle en ninguna palabra ante el pueblo y, maravillados por su respuesta, se callaron.

26. And they could not take hold of his words before the people: and they marvelled at his answer, and held their peace.

27. Acercándose algunos de los saduceos, esos que sostienen que no hay resurrección, le preguntaron:

27. Then came to [him] certain of the Sadducees, which deny that there is any resurrection; and they asked him,

28. «Maestro, Moisés nos dejó escrito que si muere el hermano de alguno, que estaba casado y no tenía hijos, que su hermano tome a la mujer para dar descendencia a su hermano.

28. Saying, Master, Moses wrote unto us, If any man's brother die, having a wife, and he die without children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.

29. Eran siete hermanos; habiendo tomado mujer el primero, murió sin hijos;

29. There were therefore seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and died without children.

30. y la tomó el segundo,

30. And the second took her to wife, and he died childless.

31. luego el tercero; del mismo modo los siete murieron también sin dejar hijos.

31. And the third took her; and in like manner the seven also: and they left no children, and died.

32. Finalmente, también murió la mujer.

32. Last of all the woman died also.

33. Esta, pues, ¿de cuál de ellos será mujer en la resurrección? Porque los siete la tuvieron por mujer.»

33. Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them is she? for seven had her to wife.

34. Jesús les dijo: «Los hijos de este mundo toman mujer o marido;

34. And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage:

35. pero los que alcancen a ser dignos de tener parte en aquel mundo y en la resurrección de entre los muertos, ni ellos tomarán mujer ni ellas marido,

35. But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage:

36. ni pueden ya morir, porque son como ángeles, y son hijos de Dios, siendo hijos de la resurrección.

36. Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.

37. Y que los muertos resucitan lo ha indicado también Moisés en lo de la zarza, cuando llama al Señor el Dios de Abraham, el Dios de Isaac y el Dios de Jacob.

37. Now that the dead are raised, even Moses shewed at the bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.

38. No es un Dios de muertos, sino de vivos, porque para él todos viven.»

38. For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him.

39. Algunos de los escribas le dijeron: «Maestro, has hablado bien.»

39. Then certain of the scribes answering said, Master, thou hast well said.

40. Pues ya no se atrevían a preguntarle nada.

40. And after that they durst not ask him any [question at all].

41. Les preguntó: «¿Cómo dicen que el Cristo es hijo de David?

41. And he said unto them, How say they that Christ is David's son?

42. Porque David mismo dice en el libro de los Salmos: Dijo el Señor a mi Señor: Siéntate a mi diestra

42. And David himself saith in the book of Psalms, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,

43. hasta que ponga a tus enemigos por escabel de tus pies.

43. Till I make thine enemies thy footstool.

44. David, pues, le llama Señor; ¿cómo entonces puede ser hijo suyo?»

44. David therefore calleth him Lord, how is he then his son?

45. Estando todo el pueblo oyendo, dijo a los discípulos:

45. Then in the audience of all the people he said unto his disciples,

46. «Guardaos de los escribas, que gustan pasear con amplio ropaje y quieren ser saludados en las plazas, ocupar los primeros asientos en las sinagogas, y los primeros puestos en los banquetes;

46. Beware of the scribes, which desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts;

47. y que devoran la hacienda de las viudas so capa de largas oraciones. Esos tendrán una sentencia más rigurosa.»

47. Which devour widows' houses, and for a shew make long prayers: the same shall receive greater damnation.
