Deuteronomio, 6

1. Estos son los mandamientos, preceptos y normas que Yahveh vuestro Dios ha mandado enseñaros para que los pongáis en práctica en la tierra a la que vais a pasar para tomarla en posesión,

1. Now these [are] the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do [them] in the land whither ye go to possess it:

2. a fin de que temas a Yahveh tu Dios, guardando todos los preceptos y mandamientos que yo te prescribo hoy, tú, tu hijo y tu nieto, todos los días de tu vida, y así se prolonguen tus días.

2. That thou mightest fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.

3. Escucha, Israel; cuida de practicar lo que te hará feliz y por lo que te multiplicarás, como te ha dicho Yahveh, el Dios de tus padres, en la tierra que mana leche y miel.

3. Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do [it]; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey.

4. Escucha, Israel: Yahveh nuestro Dios es el único Yahveh.

4. Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God [is] one LORD:

5. Amarás a Yahveh tu Dios con todo tu corazón, con toda tu alma y con toda tu fuerza.

5. And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

6. Queden en tu corazón estas palabras que yo te dicto hoy.

6. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:

7. Se la repetirás a tus hijos, les hablarás de ellas tanto si estás en casa como si vas de viaje, así acostado como levantado;

7. And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

8. las atarás a tu mano como una señal, y serán como una insignia entre tus ojos;

8. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.

9. las escribirás en las jambas de tu casa y en tus puertas.

9. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.

10. Cuando Yahveh tu Dios te haya introducido en la tierra que a tus padres Abraham, Isaac y Jacob juró que te daría: ciudades grandes y prósperas que tú no edificaste,

10. And it shall be, when the LORD thy God shall have brought thee into the land which he sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee great and goodly cities, which thou buildedst not,

11. casas llenas de toda clase de bienes, que tú no llenaste, cisternas excavadas que tú no excavaste, viñedos y olivares que tú no plantaste, cuando hayas comido y te hayas saciado,

11. And houses full of all good [things], which thou filledst not, and wells digged, which thou diggedst not, vineyards and olive trees, which thou plantedst not; when thou shalt have eaten and be full;

12. cuida de no olvidarte de Yahveh que te sacó del país de Egipto, de la casa de servidumbre.

12. [Then] beware lest thou forget the LORD, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.

13. A Yahveh tu Dios temerás, a él le servirás, por su nombre jurarás.

13. Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God, and serve him, and shalt swear by his name.

14. No vayáis en pos de otros dioses, de los dioses de los pueblos que os rodean,

14. Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people which [are] round about you;

15. porque un Dios celoso es Yahveh tu Dios que está en medio de ti. La ira de Yahveh tu Dios se encendería contra ti y te haría desaparecer de la haz de la tierra.

15. (For the LORD thy God [is] a jealous God among you) lest the anger of the LORD thy God be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth.

16. No tentaréis a Yahveh vuestro Dios, como le habéis tentado en Massá.

16. Ye shall not tempt the LORD your God, as ye tempted [him] in Massah.

17. Guardaréis puntualmente los mandamientos de Yahveh vuestro Dios, los estatutos y preceptos que te ha prescrito,

17. Ye shall diligently keep the commandments of the LORD your God, and his testimonies, and his statutes, which he hath commanded thee.

18. harás lo que es justo y bueno a los ojos de Yahveh para que seas feliz y llegues a tomar posesión de esa tierra buena de la que Yahveh juró a tus padres

18. And thou shalt do [that which is] right and good in the sight of the LORD: that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest go in and possess the good land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers,

19. que arrojaría a todos tus enemigos ante ti, como te ha dicho Yahveh.

19. To cast out all thine enemies from before thee, as the LORD hath spoken.

20. Cuando el día de mañana te pregunte tu hijo: «¿Qué son estos estatutos, estos preceptos y estas normas que Yahveh nuestro Dios os ha prescrito?»,

20. [And] when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What [mean] the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD our God hath commanded you?

21. dirás a tu hijo: «Eramos esclavos de Faraón en Egipto, y Yahveh nos sacó de Egipto con mano fuerte.

21. Then thou shalt say unto thy son, We were Pharaoh's bondmen in Egypt; and the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand:

22. Yahveh realizó a nuestros propios ojos señales y prodigios grandes y terribles en Egipto, contre Faraón y toda su casa.

22. And the LORD shewed signs and wonders, great and sore, upon Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his household, before our eyes:

23. Y a nosotros nos sacó de allí para conducirnos y entregarnos la tierra que había prometido bajo juramento a nuestros padres.

23. And he brought us out from thence, that he might bring us in, to give us the land which he sware unto our fathers.

24. Y Yahveh nos mandó que pusiéramos en práctica todos estos preceptos, temiendo a Yahveh nuestro Dios, para que fuéramos felices siempre y nos permitiera vivir como el día de hoy.

24. And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as [it is] at this day.

25. Tal será nuestra justicia: cuidar de poner en práctica todos estos mandamientos ante Yahveh nuestro Dios, como él nos ha prescrito.»

25. And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before the LORD our God, as he hath commanded us.
